Sharp Shooter II questions.

Gary mi

New member
I am hoping some one can help me make a wise decision.

The local Bass Pro Shop is selling the Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter II, for $199.97 (see add at bottom of page).

I would like to get this as a gift for my girl friend who's been hunting with me twice and is showing interest in this hobby.
Now being new at this hobby myself (less than 6 months) I'm just not familiar with Bounty Hunter products a and can't seem to find much information on this machine ,

My questions are:
1: Is this a good buy?
2: Is this a starter, or a intermediate machine?
3: anything information you can offer

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Gary

I have said it many many times. For the money, you cannot beat the Discovery 2200 which is the same as the Elite 2200 machine by Bounty Hunter. Big 5 Sporting Goods sell The Elite 2200 regularity for $130-$150 and they are KILLER machines. Four tones, depth indication, probable ID, solid-state controls, one had operation (swinging arm hand operates controls) HUGE LCD display and VERY light weight.

I was talking about the Sharp Shooter II when I looked at the above machines they aren't the same machine, or am I missing something?

I did mention I am fairly new to this sport and still in the leaning stages, and was hoping for more then the 100th response when I wasn't aware of the past 99.

Well if i was u i would get the cheap detector to start with use it for awhile then move up to the next detector like u said u are new to it. Dont go bye a detector that that has bells an whistle intell u know what u r doing.

What I was conveying is that the Elite 2200 is a better machine than the Sharp Shooter II, in my opinion and less money also.

Thank you for the clarification on the different type of machines; this is what I was looking for. Also sorry for the last post, after reading it I was a little snippy and for that I apologize.

Were I was coming from is, I purchased a Whites V3i at the end of July as my first machine, I am a quick learner, and am doing well for a beginner, finding rings, both gold and silver along with coins and thousands of pull tabs.

This package struck me as a good deal because it combines not only the metal detector but the "Pin-pointer, carry bag, headphones, pouch and digger tool".

I didn't want to buy an inadequate detector were she would be frustrated and throw in the towel.

Again thanks for all your help and clarification.

Hey, Gary. I've had a SS II for 'bout a year now... LUV it! A coin snoopin' son-of-a-gun. Nuthin' fancy, but, it does for me. If, when, ya get one, pay attention 2 the instructions on the decal sticker on the coil. Turn the "On-Off' knob just barely on. No more. Then, your disc. knob to between 10 and 11 o'clock position. You'll still get a few p-tabs and an ocassional nail, but, the good stuff will outweigh the junk. AND, Did I mention headphones?? USE 'EM... if your unit is equiped. Play with the machine... experiment with it... put different coins down in the grass and see what coin, or object, gives what tone. Coins will give you a short, crisp chirp of a tone (except a nickle). Nickles tend to have a , sort of low, muffled tone, as do most rings and stray pop-tops. I dig all these "low" tones 'till i get tired. Ya never know whats there. Your unit's telling you something is there. I passed over one 4 times before i finally dug it... A 1945-P Nickle! Sounded just like a p-top I'd just dug. Ya just never know. So, If this helps.... GO GET 'EM. Happy Huntin' to ya. BIGSQUID55 (Steve) in SW Iowa

Garry you may also want to look at radios shack web page for the last time i checked there they had the bounty hunte time ranger which was the top of the line bounty hunter machine until the platinum came out and radio shack had that for sale at 159.00.Has the same basic look as the sharpshooter but more features.......You may also want to look into a fisher f2 as another very good first time detector as is the bounty hunter 2200 and the 3300...Best of luck to you ....Markmac

I bought a Tracker iv for my sister with the 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby for $ 60.00

My wife bought me the Sharp Shooter II for Christmas. The same deal as you asked about. I went out the other day with the advice of someone on the forum and detected the snow piles that the city cleaned from the streets. I found my first find,,,a Mt Dew can. LOL My question is: the SS II isn't on the BH website that I found. Is it a starter detector or a medium?

Thanks
Ken Sr.

I would honestly recommend the Fisher F2, the package with 4" coil and pin-pointer for 215 from a forum sponsor. Great machine and best bang for the buck.
