Does anyone have any advise on settings? i have been using it set on disc,w/ sens about 1/2 ,and the disc about 1/2. Would notch be better?

No magic settings, figure out what works best for you in your area. Run the sens as high as you can before you start to get falsing, then back it off a hair. This will get you the greatest depth. Setting disc depends on what you are hunting. If you are willing to dig junk to find gold, I would run disc fully ccw. Listen to it all and you decide what to dig. Otherwise I believe disc at about 11 o'clock will get you nickels and some gold and notch out most pulltabs. Nickels will visually lock on to the nickel reading and gold and pulltabs can still read anywhere. I always used disc mode and didn't really care for notch. On paper notch looks better but its really just another filter that can cost you more than it helps you. Maybe its all in my head but I thought notch always acted a little different and I didn't trust it. I haven't used my SSII in some time as I have been getting familiar with a different machine. Will never sell the SSII though, great detector! Take care, JJ

Thanks JJ, just what I wanted to know. I wondered what would determine depth, now I know. Makes good sense. Still waiting for gold. Thanks again.

I have a sharp shooter . I usely run discrimination barely turned up and sensitvity at about the 3 o clock position. It gives different tones that is why I do not turn the disc up very far . I have found lots of good things with mine. I have a minelab 70 now and still use the bh on occasion , it did find a penny i somehow missed with my 70. The sharpshooter is alot quieter than the 70 also. I purshased the 10 in coil for The sharpshooter also I like it because it covers more ground , but it is a little harder to pin point.
