Sharing my experience with a sale

In shopping for a Sovereign i came accross a Craigslist ad for a 180 meter. I communicated with the seller and i agreed to buy it.......price was 50-75 dollars.........i sent the guy a USPS and today i inquired to make sure he received the payment and he emails me back saying that he had second thoughts about selling his meter and he is mailing me my money order back....I will be monitoring my mail carefully.

does this happen often?

I'd say no, not very often.

I had a similar experience looking for a woodstove once. Drove to a guys house that had the ad in the paper after calling him and getting directions and when I get there he starts hemming and hawing about not Really wanting to sell it. What can you do at that point? AHat was obviously trying to hold me up for more money, so FUBuddy.
Then on the next stove call the next day, the 'seller' starts the same deal, and I get kinda righteous and tell him "listen, I just drove to a guys house and he decided not to sell so if youre not going to sell it, Just Tell Me so before I drive the 20 miles to your place." He sold it to me.
I don't understand people that offer to sell something and then change their mind. Weakminded people to begin with, I guess.

I just got an email from my guy and he tells me he decided to keep his machine and therefore heneeds his meter...makes more sense NOW. He was selling both in separate ads....dont know why two ads ...maybe he tought he could get more money doing it that way...i dont know

Ive often wandered about this scenario. My concern and question is are you going to be able to cash the money order when you get it back. I mean isnt the pay to part filled out with his name or can you just scratch out his name and insert yours? Good luck either way.

Thats what I would wonder also. You made the mo out to someone else, can you cash it now?

People back out of deals occasionally.

Detector Man,I don't like sending anyone a Money Order for payment of merchandise, its too easy to get ripped off.I bought a Minelab for $500.00 about 6 years ago with a MO and never saw the detector. My advice is unless if its absolutely necessary avoid using a MO.Hope everything works out. Ron

:ausflag: Hi how do know who you can trust or rely on. I purchased a M/L 4500 from the U.S. for $3700 second hand with some other bits and pieces it never arrived thanks to pay pal my money was refunded, on the other hand I have purchased a m/l gp extreme and a something SE they both arrived OK.I manly use PI detectors 4500 and 5000 with fakes and people taking advantage of honest buyers I like to eye ball the detector before I hand my money over
regards john hope you have many good finds

At least with Paypal you can get a refund. They will freeze the sellers account until things are squared away.Word of warning that big site that sells brand detectors at cheap prices usually takes only MOs or American Express.Old saying you can't cheat and honest man.LOL no such thing as a new Etrac for $540.00.HH Ron

PayPal is a safer bet...... Craigslist is a gamble you take. I dont mind using Craigslist..... if i can put my hands on the merchandise, but long distance is real iffy.

A Postal M.O. is payable to either party.N o problem

I have a like new Ron's 180 I could sell if interested. I have 2 and found a NIB original Sovereign meter so not using one of my Ron's anymore.

Thanks, Walt

I just had to cancel a sale for a Garrett Pro pin pointer. I put 2 up for sale not knowing the wife didn't want me to sell one. The man had already mailed me a postal money order so I quickly emailed him an explanation told him what was up and as soon as the MO arrived I cashed it and sent him a certified bank cheque back plus $5 for his time and trouble. I would rather have a good reputation than screw someone over.

if youre asking me, yes i cashed the money order......i had my receipt and my half of the money order and i went to the post office where I purchased it and got my money back
The money order was filled out with the other person's information....
