Sharing custom programs is going to be tough:stars:

Sharing custom programs is going to be tough with 4 pages of settings.

Not only do you have to write all this stuff down, but then you have to have a class for the guys that might want to try it out but don't know their way around all the options and so don't have a clue about how to get to where that particular setting is.

I was thinking of sharing my jewelry program (which is still in progress) but after looking at it, I'd have to spend hours telling how to get to the places to make the changes.

Total customization:
Looking at Spectragraph changes
Looking at Tone changes
Looking at Icon and Range changes
Looking at Analyze screen changes
Looking at Pinpoint Scan screen changes

How would you communicate all this?

Mike,I would be interested at looking at your jewelery settings. There is a lot of settings to mess with but not all are pertinet.I have loaded up my old V3 program after a bit of searching though the menus of newness. Not bad just time consuming, especially if the detector locks up and needs a reboot to get anywhere before you get it loaded.I lost the program and had to put the custom program in it again. Then get it saved. Just time consuming. H.H. Yazoo

Until people learn the basics of an excellent detector they don't need to be worrying about custom programs. The menu of the Spectra is common sense in its order. People need to ground balance properly, and set up their live controls first. Once the basics are learned the adjustments are easy.

My idea would be to teach these first. Rob

The thing that I've done to help folks figure out the adjustment priorities is to copy off a few manuals and give them one that is done up with highlighters as to priority and convenience/preference adjustments. All of us can remember the feeling of being somewhat overwhelmed during first read but reality is... it is just not like that at all.

I hear guys on here who have fully played with all the stuff extensively. (I've played with it all but really only use the stuff that is important and making the tones and color adjustments to my liking.) Once that's done, it's done and down to business you go.

Also, jumping into the expert menu (for most stuff) is supper lineal and straight forward. 5 minutes will do whatever you want to do once you've established just a basic comfort with the adjustments. (And I don't even fully utilize the short cuts.)

Best advise I could give is sit down to a good show, take your loop off your box, silence the speaker, and get both hands going to pop through all the menu's options and cascading diagrams. (Toggle in and out adjusting nothing.) Click through a few of the adjusting scales and re-back them to default or where you entered in at. Once you get just these "paths" ingrained to your noggin',things start getting adjusted a lot quicker and it all becomes easier and easier.....and then.....just plain damn easy! To save all of this kind of learning for the field is putting pressure on yourself that just doesn't need to be there. Always have both hands going and you brain does catch up! I've tried to make this thing EXPLODE...... and I still have all my eyebrows and hair!

Have fun always.

...it won't be all that hard. Want to share a program? Provide all the items that you made changes to. Tell the person the base program settings that you used (Coin, relic, etc.) and then just provide the modified settings to the person or persons you are sharing it with. You don't have to give out the entire program sheet. Just focus on the sections that you made changes to and indicate that all other settings are stock or unchanged.

That will work, I'm pretty sure.

some of the guys are using spread sheets such as excel but once you set it up and it doesnt take long at all, its just a matter of attaching it to an e-mail and sending it to whomever you wish to get it.

if you use a spread sheet like this you will never lose your settings and can go back to make changes when ever you wish or just to refresh your memory as to what your settings are.

if for some reason you lose or change your settings in the field you will be able to fix what you did,

it is worth it in the end a little work to start will save you a lot of greif later down the road.
