Ok guys and gals I have had the E for 4 days and have about 6-8 hours into it. I am looking for some tips on pinpointing. What I have been doing is not using the pinpoint mode and just do subtle sweeps of the coil side to side towards me until the signal disappears. Then I dig at the center top of the coil. My problems really comes when there is multiple targets next to each other and also when you get a deeper signal. Any helpful hints? Thanks again all. HH

One, you really should use pinpoint mode to pinpoint with to be most accurate. After you get good, you can usually do it out of the pinpoint mode. Also take the time to pinpoint from at least two directions. It takes longer but reduces the time looking for the target. Don't rush, the gold coin will wait for you..
Also, I believe you will find that both the Sovereign and the Explorer actually pinpoint about a half inch into the coil and not on the outer edge. If I can not find the target, I usually find it is on the side closest to me.
To hone your pinpointing skill, Have a friend tape a coin to a thin piece of cardboard and place it face down on the ground. The you attempt to pinpoint it and stick a Pin through the cardboard and see how close you can come. Very quickly you will begin to be quite accurate.

Its terrible to pay that much money and still have to buy an X1 probe. But that really helps a lot. Also go to somewhere, where you can dig up junk and practice and practice pin pointing. I use the front of the coil just like the other guys.

Sam, I'm not an expert on the explorer by any means I've had it almost 2 months but I have gotten where I can pinpoint and cut a 4"-5" plug on targets 6"-8" deep and usually have the coin in the middle of the plug. The way I learned was to go to a school or some place there are a lot of clads, then you don't care if you scratch it. When you get a signal, even in trash, you should be able to take REAL short swings. Get the area as small as possible, you may have to go 90 deg. to the target to avoid some of the trash. Eyeball the spot you think it is, lift your coil until you get a steady thresh hold, switch to pinpoint and go back to your signal area. Swing quick short sweeps, rotate 90 deg keep making the quick sweeps, rotate 90 deg again if you have to. you should be able to center the signal. It WILL center under the red "M" on top of your coil which should be about a 2" square. This is with a 10" stock coil. Practice practice practice. If you have ??'s e-mail me HH Bryan

I was having the toughest and most frustrating time pinpointing until this weekend. If you pinpoint with the tip of your coil try this. Bring 5 to 10 golf tees along. When you find a target, pinpoint it using the tip of the coil and mark it with a golf tee. Turn 90 degrees swing the coil. If it repeats at the same spot, you have your target. If the target moved, put another golf tee at the new pinpoint spot, keep rotating and marking with golf tees until you come back to the first tee. You now have a good idea of where the coin is located. It should be within the circle of tees you have just made. Cut the plug/lid on the outside of the tees. I was amazed at the instant success when I began using this method. This weekend using this method,I found my first barber dimes (2) and 8 wheaties in 4 hours. Went back today to test the area again, and my golf tee method, came out with 1 barber dime and 1 wheatie in 2 hours. This method has taken the frustration out of pinpointing and how to keep track of multiple target responses in one small area for me. Try it, hope it works for you.
