Shallow water vs Deeper water finds

Im not living near any ocean but hunt freshwater lakes in my area. I used my Minelab safari all last summer in shallow water(as deep as i could go before ruining the detector) say crotch deep. Found about 40 rings of various gold silver etc. My question is?.......Im thinking of purchasing a Minelab excal 2 .....and want to know if in your experiences...have you found more jewelry in deeper water than in shallow???? again...i only search freshwater lakes...thanks

I would say anywhere in the water at fresh water beaches has the potential to produce jewelry. When folks play in the water and their fingers loosen up they lose their rings. The ocean beaches change all the time with the tides moving in and out.

The exception to the "Wade and hunt no deeper than chest deep at a swimming area" is when there is a popular swim platform/float away from the edge of the water.

A treasure trove can await the hunter who is able to probe these spots although they often require diving!

i hunted about 8 fresh water lakes and always did the best knee to chest deep. and the lakes that had diving platform's ,i just waited until winter draw down and wore a snow mobile suit and chest waders and hit those spots!
