Shaft play?

ML

New member
Question to those who are using the 800. I just received and assembled mine. There is an awful lot of play in the shaft even when the camlocks are tightened. By that I mean if you put your coil to the ground, I can wiggle the handgrip/control box left and right a good inch each way from center. The play is in the lower shaft where the camlock is. Anybody else notice this? Thanks

I have the problem with my 600. I tightened the cam locks as tight as I dared. It seem to help but shouldn't have to tighten them that tight.

Exact same with mine...also the control box is not centered with the coil...oddly.

That's what made me notice it instantly, the control box wasn't centered. When I twisted my grip to the right to see if I could straighten it I was able to move it two inches the other way so that it was off center an inch to the left. The cam locks are tight. It's way too much play so I'll reach out to Minelab Monday.

Charlives- “exactly the same”? Same tight or same loose?
Mine seems loose, and control box uncentered... so I'd be interested to see what Minelab says, ML.

The Physicists and engineers who develop the “best in class” electronic packages for Minelab seem to be from another planet from whoever is doing their mechanical design. The quality of the mechanical packages has been uniformly awful for decades and things like wobbly shafts and off-center housings don’t bode well for this latest launch.

Mine comes Tuesday - we’ll see.

Make sure you have the lower rod in the correct position. it has a snap tab on one side of the shaft. that mates with the holes on the back side of the controll shaft. if the tab is in one of the holes the controll head/shaft wont turn

I must say I am finding all this shaft play talk a little concerning. My detector will be here next week and I have to check this.

Well that didn't help, was out water hunting again this morning. Still a lot of play in the shaft, Back to the drawing board.

Some say yes and some say no.

To me this shows an inconsistency in the components manufacture. Jerry.

I have to extend mine out to the end. Flexing of the shaft starts about two inches below the control handle. Gonna do a Mod and place it on a plugger straight shaft.

Mines on an Anderson carbon fibre shaft .

Be warned , dont forget the hole you need for the little dimple that goes into the shaft to stop the handgrip sliding over . You will see when you take the control box off the stem .

My Plugger one piece 36" carbon fiber shaft will be here on Wednesday. I sent Bill pic of the Equinox all disassembled with all the OEM hole locations and specs, then after a nice phone conversation I told him what I wanted. I'm also going to use one of Plugger's modded White's lower shaft since it looks like the Equinox's lower shaft is to big in the OD to fit the ID of Plugger's carbon fiber shaft. You could also use a Excal lower shaft if ya wanted as it fits the Equinox coil perfectly.
I'll post pic, stability and the weight differences as soon as I have made the switch.

Here is my issue https://youtu.be/jHk8f__3cXw
