What is your target conductor? What will be your strategy for your site?? What clues does your site hold? In my previous post I knew this yard was on a very long battle line. When I arrived I first went into the woods and saw the tell tale sign's of old holes. Speaking with my friend she stated she never recalled anyone asking permission to relic hunt on her property. Not unusual for Virginia. Allot of diggers just go. Shame on them. The yard was natural dirt. No sign of back fill. The yard had multiple low conductors but knowing a Minnie ball hits around 66 to 68 I set the Relic up as follows.Stoof-tabsallday said:Hey gents, besides the manual with broad spectrum numbers, is it just a hunt and learn thing to figure out where things ring in on the vdi scale?
Still learning my relic, but not able to tell the difference between trash and good targets really yet.
Thanks.
And sounds like a good hunt!!! Makes you wonder what happened on that land so long ago.

DI3, disc at 20 upper tone break at 60. Lowered iron volume to one. Sensitivity for this site was around 80. So any non Minnie balls would have a mid tone or higher vdi number, iron would be just barely heard. When got a high tone I simply checked the meter and dug only the Minnie vdi number within one either side of 67. 12 Minnie balls later it was quickly confirmed we have relics without wasting time digging the mid tones. Now granted some mid tone relics are there but I will dig out each prospective tone starting with the high tone first. So try this in your target area based on what your looking for. I have done this for many years and have found a ton of good stuff with many different detectors. The Relic for me is just the latest " Effective Tool" among many. I'm a Maverick who does not promote any product. I buy all my equipment and do not offer advice or do any you tube videos any more. Besides your greatest find will be your learning. Best regards
I'll give that a try. That in DI3 or DI2? Or either lol.woodchiphustler said:Drop your tone break to 50 and have at it.
