Hello again,
Yes, it did thaw (in places) here in very Southern Wisconsin. Raining right now or I would be out digging again.
I ended up heading to a house where I used to live during my late twenties. Pretty sure I had been over the yard with my old Compass Coin Magnum. Don't remember what I found back then. At the time I was much more interested in wine (beer actually), women, and song; detecting not so much. I have memories of many after bar parties at this house and visions of dozens of people dancing naked in the front yard during thunderstorms.
Thought there might be pocket spills from the shedding process.
Anyways, ended up with seven silver, a buff, 8 older jefferson nickels, and a bunch of wheats. About right for a house built in the late 30's.

Got a no-date SLQ near the driveway. Soil near drive and concrete curb by road was still frozen, middle of the yard not so. This and a couple other signals were so good I did not hesitate to chip through the frozen ground. And embarrassed to say that was the first silver quarter for me this year.
I did find one pocket spill, kind of a first for me. First coins out where nickels and Lincoln memorials, then a wheat or two. I was pretty sure it was going to be all modern stuff. I was dumping some of the coins into my pouch and some on the ground. I was using my periscope probe and coin after coin just kept coming out. I was surprised to suddenly see two silver rims in the whole, turned out to be a merc and a Washington quarter. I've never found a clad/silver mix pocket spill, though officially this is a stinkin' Lincoln/silver mix. Once I got the silver I started putting all the coins in my front pocket so I could see what the dates of the coins were. Several more coins came out, including another merc. When I got home the Lincoln's all turned out to be 1960. So that all made sense.
Hopefully after today's rain I will have a few more days before it refreezes. I'm hoping to get a LC before the end of the year.
