Was out today found lots of clad but also dug lots of trash, was wondering how can i refuse the trash and way do i get good readings but still come up as trash? How should i be running it?custom?zero?iron?

with all detectors there are trash targets that will read the same as good targets. if you set your machine at full disc. you will still get targets that we would consider to be trash. sometimes you can eliminate some trash by sound or by the size or shape of the signal.

By the sound of your post, this is your first detector and you thought that it would be able to just find you loot and that's all. First, let me congratulate you on making a good choice in picking the AT Pro. It will serve you well. But what you have bought is a METAL detector and not a MONEY detector. It detects metal, all kinds of metal. If you want the loot, you dig the junk. No detector out there will just find treasure, no matter how you set it up. That being said, your detector will give you a probability of what's under your coil. It's up to you to learn by repetition of what that sound coming thru your 'phones MIGHT be. We all dig trash, most don't post the pics of it. I do so everyone knows what you have to dig to get the gold rings and things. Keep swinging, keep digging, keep learning. Read the posts on here and other forums and learn how others have found treasure and how you can apply it to your situation.
Keep asking questions when something puzzles you in a certain situation. I wish there had been forums like these when I first started, I would probably have a whole lot more treasure in my pouch if there had of been. Good hunting and keep learning.

Very good post, Bigcatdaddy.Been detecting 35 years. Owned about 40 or so detectors. Own 12 now.Very good post.....Jack

Learn to use your ears and the Iron audio....Iron Audio will tell you about most trash targets with that growl it makes...Kinda like an angry dog wanting you to back off...
Pay less atention to the screen...This is why I recomend detectors without screens for new hunters...train your ears first...not your eyes.

HH,

If you want to dig less trash, you have to add more discrimination. You can still pick out the easy targets, such as coins and leave a whole lot of trash in the ground. But, using discrimination is a double edged sword. You leave a lot more trash in the ground, and.....you also leave a lot of the good targets there too. Some nice targets made of gold, platinum, titanium can get left behind as well us countless other targets which don't share the same conductivity as copper and aluminum. If you are expecting to get lots of fantastic finds upon your first several outings, you are setting yourself up for a big disappointment. As others mentioned, it takes time to learn a machine. Peronally, I don't really get the hang of a detector unril I get about 100 hrs on it. My eventual goal is the learn the detector to the point where I tell it what's under that coil, not the other way around. And the only way to get there is to dig a lot of targets, including trash.

Stick around this forum and watch, listen and ask a lot of questions. You will eventually become very proficient with your new detector. You bought on of the "BEST!"
