settings question

What's the best tone mode to run in? Conduct or ferrous? I would think Conduct, but some people seem to like ferrous....
I just think you'd pull up more crap with ferrous...
I'm running my gain on 4, threshold on 7, volume down around 7, and sensitivity i leave on 16 auto (the factory preset) do those sound like good settings?
Any suggestions?
I'm gonna try an old train station that's been there since the mid 1800's... wish me luck!

I hunt ferrous mode in high iron areas and conductive mode in iron free spots...in ferrous you will get high tones on some trash items, but most of thereal junk reads off the bottom of the screen.. if it reads solid low right than ignore it or just reject that area ofthe screen

If your using AUTO sens I would recommend running it all the way up at 32.Then the machine continously adjusts sensitivity as needed.Or manual sens Raising it to the point where the threshold just slighty breaks up while making your sweeps. If your new to the machine I would suggest that you use Auto but crank it up.Also most people max their volume setting.I personally would also raise the gain a little.I would also lay a quarter on the ground and make some passes raising the coil up till the point where you can just barely detect it and use that as a reference point to tweak your settings.
