Settings on the 705

SBA701

New member
I got my new 705 the other day and took it out to a local park (pretty trashy). It drove me nuts. I'm not sure if I had it set up the right way. I'm going out today and try it again maybe using only 4 tones. I have to get used to all the settings. I have read the ebook and the manual several times but it's still a little confusing. I'm used to the Ace 250 which is turn on and go. I guess it will be practice, practice, practice.

I highly recommend that new users start out in the 4 tone mode. Eventually you'll get really good with the detector and you'll be looking to get a little more in depth with it and switching to the 99 setting will be the next logical step. When I was first starting out with the 705 from time to time I would switch to 99. At the time it was just way too confusing and after 5 or 10 minutes I would go back to 4 tone. I think you'll know when the time it right to switch.

Have fun!

Congrats on your new 705. I also upgraded from the 250 and have found so much more especially Indians and Silver Coins. One thing to consider when hunting a trashy park is to try to keep the sensitivity a little lower, perhaps 16-20.
You will eliminate a lot of trashy targets and some false signals.

You also might want to try a DD coil or a smaller concentric coil.
