Settings Help for 12" quarter

duggr

New member
I've only got about 10 hours or so on my etrac, so I need a little advice!
I planted a Silver quarter at 12" deep back in 07 and would like to see how
the Etrac would respond to it after seven years in the ground..Unfortunately the plastic
tent stake i used to mark the spot has disappeared (08 flood) and I'm not sure of the
exact area where it is..Can anyone recommend some advice for the Etrac that I would need
to adjust to help acquire the depth needed to locate the quarter

just swing away ... and hope the ground has some moisture and maybe crank up the sens.

12" is pretty deep! Like already said go to manual sensitivity and turn it up as much as possible. Also, run an open screen and go very slow. I would use the largest coil you have too. The Fe numbers may be off at the depth so pay more attention to the Co.

Let us know if you find it.

Will give it a shot guy's...Thanks

I'm just going to have to clear the area (18x10)....That would be great if auto plus 3 would pick it up!

Also remember, that depending on your soil, the quarter probably sank a little in 7 years. I'd guess between1/2 and 3/4 of an inch, but it's very terrain specific...if you have soft ground it could be more.
Slow down, crank up the sens, overlap swings, and scrub the ground with that coil. Try coming at the area from different angles. A little bit of luck wouldn't hurt, either.

Not to mention the added bonus...those deep targets are much easier to dig in soft dirt.
:)

quarter in 12 inch deep is too deep for me! Deepest I can is 8 inch on regular 11 inch coil on Auto 3 plus. I think bigger coil able to find deeper coins!

I've found a lot of silver dimes near, at or deeper than 12 inches but with my Tornado coil. If you have a larger coil, use it.

Here's my basic setup for deep silver some of which has already been mentioned:
-Auto noise cancel in the area before you do anything.
-Its highly unlikely that you will detect that coin using AUTO. In my experience AUTO +3 craps out at around 8 inches with the soil conditions around here.
-Use as high a manual sensitivity as you can tolerate.
-Deep on.
-Keep the coil moving slow and hugging the ground. If its buried under grass, mow it before detecting.
-Try using an open pattern first.
-Don't expect a perfect 12-47 ID. It'll likely be jumpy as hell possibly reading in the ferrous 1 area with conductive numbers bouncing up and down. Or the ID will be all over the map. Or you'll get the infamous thumping sound. If the eTRAC can pinpoint any of those jumpy IDs including thumping, dig!

Good luck.

Or if you do not find it .

What settings, what coil, etc would be of special interest.

Thanks everyone for there Help!! I managed to get out for an hour tonight at the old church grounds I've been hunting.
It was so muggy! Finally had to remove my full sized headphones to get some air to cool me off....About that time I had
the mosquito's buzzing around my face and using me for a fast meal....While working my way back to the car I picked
up a 1904 indian at 8" or better, and with no headphones, It was an easy signal...I thought it was a nickel at first...I don't
think the Etrac will have any problem finding the 12" quarter with the stock coil when I get directly over it....I'ts just me
finding the time to do it...I have one hour's detecting time in the last four weeks...When I do find it I will chime in and let
everyone know...Next time I plant a garden I will put a 4" PVC end cap flush to the ground and marked....Plastic tent
stakes are to easy to lose ....

You really need to look for it tomorrow afternoon. It's only supposed to be 95. That's good detecting weather.
