Thank you again. Keep me in mind if you run across a little coil for sale or trade. Was the C$ made before Fisher sold out?
Yes, there is both Los Banos (old Fisher models) and later First Texas models. So, the C$ was one of the model lines that was in the transition group.
The C$ was first then came the Edge then I believe the Excel came alone.
I've had both, the Los Banos and a First Texas C$ I believe the later one Ground balanced better, in that you could tell for sure when you got it right, the Los Banos model's ground balance almost didn't seem to do anything, I mean it would go through the process and beep but I never got any hint that after or before it was ground balanced that anything changed. I could turn it on and hunt the same ground and as deep without ground balancing as I could with ground balancing it?
Of the two I had I would have to say that I liked the first one I had a little better than the second one.
After First Texas took full control of Fisher a lot of models were cut from production and all the lifetime warranties were cut off. The claims were the old Fisher company was in deep financial trouble and to save anything and turn a profit First Texas streamed line the product line (cut out production) of certain models and early on the C$, Gold Strike, Edge, and Excel was probably the first to be discontinued.
The C$ wasn't in production long enough for it to have gained much interest in the aftermarket world, Sun-Ray did make a few things for it, some also feel that the design of the C$ was a little ahead of its time and that really hurt its market appeal.
If you keep an eye out in the forums and Fleabay one of the small coils will turn up, I'd say the best price on one would be on a forum.
