hi guys can any of you give me the best basic settings for park hunting with a 705 its not for me i use a fisher f70 its for a freind of mine ive been finding way more on our outings than he has im sure hes doing something wrong hes got the 5x10 18.75kHz gold coil could that be the problem the other day we where out mding and i got a hit on a quarter my f70 was reading 80 to 84 he swung his 705 over it and it was jumping all over 30 38 42 32 ect he says thats happing alot with most targets any info he will appreciate thanks hh

Hi there :)

you sound like a nice caring friend to want to help a hunting buddy - good for you , good karma to ya

Jumping TID's on his but not yours...I would trun Tracking on ( the machine will Ground balance on the run as you go along)
Also be sure that he Noise Cancels before starting out each time ...put it in All Metal, sweep around to find an area clear of targets and perform a Noise Cancel.
Finally ask him not to over power the 705... try Sensitivity around the 20 mark or even less for shallow coin drops.

If you do all that with the 705 and 5x10 ( a very good coil for coins and jewellery by the way) and its still doing it ...
- take coil cover off and clean between coil and cover
- change coils... to see if the coil is your problem

Still doing it ?? - i would get it the detector checked
I hope some of this helps

I would start off like Terra said but I would also download the ebook at the top of this forum he can learn tons of the best info and advice you can find, and I would also recommend to him to join this forum because the people here are very helpful and nice.

In most cases, he really should have been getting a very solid 42 for a TID. It almost sounds like his ground balance might not have been exactly correct or there were adjacent metals near the quarter.

thanks everyone for the help he dont have a computer so i downloaded the ebook for him ill have him read it that should help him alot happy trails

I'd almost bet there was a penny close to the quarter.... remember where there is one coin usually you will find another right there. Most pocket spills are more than one coin. I have found coins on top of each other and had that happen quite a bot.
