setting zero tone

conjure

New member
Im new to the forum, and appreciate any help shot my way. Could someone give me a hint in the navigation part where to find how to set tones to O? thx

Go to expert then to audio then go to search then tones and then into custom tones.. I think, trying to remember from memory.

menu - menu - expert menu - Audio - tone - vdi tones - custom - edit then used the left and right arrows Read Carl's short cuts at the top. Rob

Yeah, yeah,...thats what I meant....:)

After a bit of use that menu becomes real logical and fast to bust through. Good question as I realize I don't pay attention to how I'm getting to the adjustments anymore (and need to to help out better).

Accepting all VDI designations and setting a zero audible tone (silent) to the unwanted.Essentially, setting the discrimination wide open for added depth.

OK, this is what I was talking about "bugging you guys".....Why do you set a zero tone? Brian

Not everyone sets to zero. I set my negative #s at 5 tone and it gives me a ticking sound. That way I know if there is iron in the area without having to listen to regular tone.
Thats what so great about this machine, being able to make it the way that YOU want it.

If you discriminate out a section of the VDI spectrum, it will shut off the audio and could mask a good target next to the iron. By assigning a 0 tone or a low tone, the audio is not shut off and you should be able to still hear a good target next to the unwanted target.

I have liked to hear a lot of audio in the past but decided to try the 0 tone approach just to see. Finding added stuff. Now...next time I go out I'm going to find some setting that add just a touch more audio. Gonna try and run with magic's settings cuz nulling is fine but just a little added alert will be nice. (Some silver dimes and a passel of wheats w/zero tone in pounded heavy iron spots!) What machine can you adjust to this level of preferences....just one.

Hi. I just got my V3i yesterday and I want to turn off discrimination and set the tone to 0 for all VDI's below 5. How to do you turn off disc.? And is there an easy way to set the tone to zero or do you have to set each one separately?

Thank you for your help!

Reese

Reese, I explained it in this post. Read Carl's short cut. Rob

I also like the 5 tone for negative VDI's. The ticking is subtle, but sure lets you know when something is there and I like to hear all.
