Setting up the Explorer with the X5 coil.....

I tried two set ups for my explorer using the X5 coil.
Set up 1 - SEMI-AUTO fast on, deep off, gain 8, sens 24-28, ferrous, wide open disc.
Set up 2 - MANUAL deep on, fast off, gain 6, sens 30, ferrous, wide open disc.
I used set up 1 for 4.5 hours and have come to the conclusion that maximum depth is achieved at about 3 to maybe 4 inches.
Set up 2 was used for 3 hours, I was able to achieve depths of at least the length of the blade of my lesche digger or about 6 inches.

I have a question about the x5 coil. When I go MDing in the morning when the dew is still on the ground and the grass is wet, after a few minutes I start getting a lot of falsing. I can lift the coil off the ground and touch the bottom of the coil with my finger (no rings or watch or anything metal near the coil) and it beeps. Seems that even touching it with a blade of grass sets it off. I can take a rag and dry the coil off and the falsing stops when if I touch it. After the coil gets wet again though it starts up again. Could there be a crack in the coil letting water in, or is there some other reason that this is happening?

and excellent target separation. Sometimes I dig small iron rings down to my elbo with it. That's 17" by the way and know if it was deeper I'd hear it.
Coin hits are crisper than my stock 10" coil and it seems to me just as deep.
Not as much interference either on the 7.5.

I used mine in the dew a few days ago...no problems at all. try putting a plastic baggy over it and see if that keeps it from falsing. If it stops, then you got some kinda issue that sunray will take care of, I'm sure.

The Explorer is the only machine I know of that reads the same in the air as it does in the ground. Check your depth in the air and see what it does.

Id say you have a problem. Water may be seeping into the coil from somewhere. What Im sure of is that its not normal.
