Setting up the CZ7A for a battle site hunt...

I may have a chance to hunt a battle site from 1504. Would just turning on the CZ, not notching out anything and ground balancing be an appropriate setup? It's mostly forest now. I want it to find iron as most of the weaponry was made of iron. The battle was fought 7/8 Aug 1504 and approximately 1000 men died at this site. A great point to the date is, the grassy field where it was fought would have grown very high by this time of year, anything dropped had a good chance to be lost, until I come along with a Fisher, LOL, it will be a perfect machine for this type of hunt, if it weren't so darn heavy! I have the museum and historical society backing me up and doing the permit work. We'll see what happens. They get first dibs on the finds but I really don't care, and the site is only 10 minutes from the house. Would appreciate any advice on the settings. HH, Mike

When I relic hunt w. my 7a, I usually notch iron. But since you want iron, just run no notches & dig it all. Or don't even bother with the disc mode at all. See how high you can get with sensitivity staying stable. I can only do like a 4 in our mineralized soils. You can probably get higher. But 4 on a CZ-70 or late 7a still will "GIT R DUN!" <img src="/metal/html/blush.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":redface">

My only advice is TAKE ME PLEASE MIKE!!
Wow, when I watch movies like Gladiator, King Arthur Troy, etc. I dream of being able to hunt a place like that, fantastic possibilities. Good luck and let us know haw you do.

have the historical society backing me so it's very possible. It does worry me knowing that most finds there will be made of steel and probably well rotted. Imagine pulling up an old battle helmut and have it disintegrate in your hands, argh! I'll have to dig huge holes. HH, Mike
