Setting up for Silver w/ GTP1350

Wow! What a great forum! My eyes are starting to bleed I've been reading so much.

I live on a ranch in Central Oregon. The property used to have a homestead from one of the early settlers in the area circa 1870. I am finding a ton of relics, ranging from Spencer Rifle cartridges, to cast iron cooking stove pieces. Most of what I'm finding are old square iron nails, horseshoes, and tin can fragments. I literally can't go 6 inches without a hit.

What I'd like to try is searching for just silver or gold. Can anyone give me advice on how best to setup my machine to ignore iron and tin and just hit on precious metals?

Much obliged,

Rick

First, welcome aboard the best forum on the net. There is no such machine that just finds gold and silver. If there was everybody would have one. :) You'll have to dig some junk to get the good stuff. Gold falls into the same conductive range as foil, pulltabs, etc. Keep us posted on what you uncover. Should be some interesting relics around those places.

Welcome to the forum. some of those old nails, unless they are concrete nails might be valuable. I had a hit on a small piece of foil Sunday and it showed as a B target, but you never know what you're going to find. Sometimes valuable targets show up as foil or iron, according to posts by the experts. Best of luck to you and happy hunting. Keep your eyes out for a cache, because those old timers didn't believe in banks and hid their money from thieves and robbers. Even some of the older strands of barbed wire are valuable to people who collect them.

Thanks to y'all for the warm welcome. I'm hooked!

Last night while digging my wife & I found the remains of some old boots. I said "wouldn't it be wierd if we found bones? You guesses it, we found several bones within 1 foot of the boots. I can't say if they're human or animal, but they are very old and fragile. We're going to have an anthropologist we know take a look at them.

Would it be proper to start a new thread about this with pictures?

Rick

I'll be taking some pics this weekend. I'm anxious to see if you guys can help identify some of the iron pieces I've found.
