Setting the meter on the Sov.

kickback

New member
Do you set it at 175 per the books intruction on a quarter or 180? On the chart Mike(Virginia) linked to the beach site are those readings (ID numbers) from a meter set up at 180?Thanks.It's frozen solid here, come on spring!!! Bill

If it's the 180 meter then I set mine for 180 on a quarter. Seems to be dead on after that.

I use 180 and find that works quite well. However I would think either would work if you know where its at. We set ours everytime we start out, keep a quater on the machine to use. This way we know we start right. But the meter is a comparator of sorts the way I see it so as long as you know you should be good.
Good Luck

Most all that have a 180 meter will set it for 180 even though Minelabs owners manual will say 175, Now when you need a number to go with a target we can tell you, but if you set it for 175 we are not sure what numbers they will be.

Thanks everybody.Rick(ND) what numbers do you get for Indianhead pennies and wheaties? Thanks Bill

If it is the later IH pennies from the 1865 -1909 they will read like a zinc penny which is 176-177, but also the early wheaties also will read this too. If it is deeper I figure it has to be a IH or a early wheat penny, but if it is louder it seem to be a surface zinc penny.
The reg wheaties and the copper pennies before 1982 will read 179-180 like clad coins and silver ones.
