A number of forum members have contacted me since I first posted some of this information on the forum and more recently after I did a column for Lost Treasure Magazine on the same subject.

Andy, couldn't agree with you more. As long term detectorists already know, the easy stuff in public places is gone. In the early 1980's, a normal outing to park/school for me was 5-10 silver coins a day plus other valuable goodies. Now day's if you find 1-2 silvers, its a good day. Silver jewelry is almost non-existent. Just have to hunt smarter these days. Research and go places that hopefully no else has detected. Thanks for the excellent reality check. Your post may keep new people in the hobby from getting frustrated and quitting before they give it a chance.
