This Sport, really affords goal setting...theres so many subsets of skills to be garnered within it, that any and all goals set and lessons learned in that attempt build upon each other...
A goal should be really hard to accomplish, and like Elton mentioned, can take the 'Fun' out of it...but thats the deal....you commit to hitting that goal and are out in all weather and situations where you really wouldnt be in to accomplish that goal no matter what! You gotta grind it out! A heavy goal forces a guy to go above and beyond what their natural capabilities may be to hit it, and makes them a better person just on the attempt...
If a fellow sets his sights on '100 silver' season, chances are he will be doing all sorts of research and diligence to achieve that goal...If a fellow chooses a "10K clad" year, its a whole nother strategy and hunting style..both will teach some powerful lessons whose skills gained can be translated over into other goals set in the future...
You can do a 'goal within a goal' too...with simple equipment, you can knock down $100 per month clad, and go for a big 'gold inland jewelry' year at the same time...
Goals are something that can be area specific...depending upon where you live and what you have to work with..just once, everybody should set a goal and give it a shot..just to appreciate the effort and education gained along the way..
...sooner or later a guy might want to specialize in one skill subset of this Sport, shooting for a certain 'goal' may point the way to your natural inclination and strength...
Good Luck to all you Goal setters!
