Serious question VX3

Elton

New member
Does the VX3 have serious depth or not. I have read different stories ..Some say yes, others say no...

I have considered getting one..

It is the same as your V3i was Elton. You will notice no difference.:stars: If the V3i didn't work for you neither will the VX3.

If you have a V3i WHY on earth would you want to downgrade?:poke:

V3i was. He doesn't have one now. Elton, what detectors have you had since the V3I? I'm curious.

Well I guess it's a case of the grass is always greener syndrome........

I don't know about that. I just wanted to know what other top units Elton has tried.

I've owned two VX3's and have had every coil Whites offers on them. Personally, I did not find them to be depth monsters, around 7-8" in my soil was the deepest coin found. I honestly think that the V3i would be deeper, but I have yet to own one. The Vx3 does not come with the tx boost option, that alone should increase depth. The other feature that I could see a benefit in depth is from the ability to turn off the audio report on particular vdi numbers, which still allows one to run zero disc...and not lose depth/masking by way of discrimination. Again, not an option offered on the Vx3.

I did enjoy the Vx3, but I think the V3i has more abilities/tweaks available to tailor the detector for extra depth depending on the location and targets desired.

E-Trac .F75, F-75 Camo, F-75 LTD, Vision, V3, V3i ...... oh, and a SE Pro.. All worked Rob..I'm just trying to maximize the depth potential in my area... I have limited areas to detect..and they have been ponded by hundreds..Yes hundreds we have several clubs in our area with plenty of members....

Just for your personal info Rob.......... I didn't get much depth with the V3i.......... I was told by another hunter the VX3 was a deeper unit... So I asked here.. He never had a V3i that I know of.. I'm Only wanting to get the facts straight.

Anything else you want to know Pm please..... and I will give you the details...

You made the statement if the V3i didn't work for me .neither will the VX3..... . Easier set up, could mean less mistakes can be made in the field. Whites changed the filter set up for some reason and other little tweaks....

Maybe I better not buy one though if you say it will not work for me.... Thanks for your response...

:stars: What does that little symbol mean Rob....???????????

The internals of the VX3 and V3i are the same. Therefore the VX3 should not be deeper. Electronically they are the same. If anything since the VX3 user interface doesn't allow all the options the V3i offers it should in theory and in some cases be less deep.

The two detectors come with a different standard coil. In different cases there could be a difference because of this.

I appreciate your response.. Thank you ..

HAHAHA Johnedoe we all know that isn't always true.Yet sometimes it works out better.. Less can be more !!

Bottom line......... We all gotta find what works best for each of us....
Happy hunting:detecting:

Another thing that you do not hear much about the Spectra series is their ability in iron. I was using a Vx3/d2 combo at an 1860s farm house last fall. My hunting partner found an iron pit with his Etrac and quickly had to back out due to audio fatigue. I ventured in with the V and pulled out two Indians and a crotal bell. My huntin partner was surprised, to say the least. To me the audio on a Spectra series is much better than most, almost like an old analog machine. I'll end by saying this. I currently have a very nice F75SE, great in iron, super deep, and it's for sale. I'll be replacing it with a Spectra. .....

Wow you have had a lot of top of line machines! I was really interested in the V line up for some time. All the guys in my area are whites users but none had the V3i. All older gentlemen too. I was intimidated by the V3i and went with the simpler Minelab safari and now the Etrac. I always wished I had the funds to try several top of the line machines.

I have the Vx3 with the 950,d2,6x10 coils. My go to coil is the 6x10 and have no problems with depth. With the 950 coil at the beach i found a dime at 10 3/4". With the d2 i found a large cent at 11". 6x10 i have found dimes at 8". The ground is pretty mineralized here, I am by far no expert at metal detecting i read a lot of forums and try a lot of different set ups. I will some day have a v3i. I think just having more options with the filters would help a lot. If you have the money you can always set up the v3i like a vx3 until you get the hang of it. Hope that helps.
