serial number can help tell how old the detector is / Transferable warranty applies only to detectors purchased on or after July 1, 2011

Some of you may be aware but I was not.... I contacted Minelab and asked about the age of a Sovereign GT I saw for sale. I asked, "Is there any way of telling how old a Minelab metal detector is? For instance, I am interested in buying a used Sovereign GT and I am wondering if there is a way for me to tell the age of the machine through its control box serial number? Thank you for your assistance."

This was Minelab's response:

Unfortunately no. If you get us the serial number we could be of assistance with getting you that information.

Regards,

Darin Brown

I then provided a serial number for a unit I was interested in and this was the response to the serial number provided:

Hi Jim, the Sovereign is about 2 years old. Just so you know the warranty on this detector is not transferable. Warranties are only transferable on detectors that were purchased on or after July 1, 2011. I hope this helps. Have a great weekend!

Thank you,

Brian
