Sent 2 coins off to ANACS to be graded

They sent me a E-mail to get 2 coins graded for free. Just got them back yesterday. Bought coins at our annual coin ciub show. 1854 $3 gold bought as VF, came back as XF. 1875-S 20C bought as AU-53, came back as 1875 S/S 20C Variety MFD-002 cleaned. Don't know what S/S stands for (didn't see an OMM on REV. The variety is between the 1 and 8 on the lower dentiicles along the rim is the top of an 8. I could see it with my 10 power loup real good. Love error coins. Didn't even get charged for the variety classification. Thank you ANACS.

I would guess S/S means an S over an S.

That's what I thought. No visible 2nd S which would be called an OMM (over mint mark). There is a new grading system out now. I'm guessing the 2nd S stands for silver. I will ask some of the dealers in our coin club at next meeting.

Thank You, I'm overwhelmed. Next coin graded will be 1853 $20 Gold Assay from California. Gotta buy these type of coins when they become available. Heart holds me back from serious detecting.

Just called ANACS,and it is a S over S. I can't see it yet but I'll keep looking. Double error coin.
GOOD LUCK ALL - Ron

Sometimes it is pretty hard to see without a microscope, but congratulations on the great buys. :clapping:
