On other machines you can turn sensitivity to high
and actually loose depth in mineralized ground.
Is the Explorer like that?
 
Yes, in certain mineralization(mainly iron mineralized ground) and in iron itself you can overdrive the sensitivity into nulling on good targets.. if you run into that type mineralization auto sens might be the way to go as its easier than trying to figure out the best manual setting.. in high iron areas I usually run around 20 manual and wait till I get a decent deeper target then adjust the sens in manual till I get best response and leave it there for that site
