Sensitivity

So what controls the sensitivity on the MXT? Or is there no sensitivity adjustments you can make? I know there is gain adjust.

I am not sure on the MXT cause gain and sensitivity are two different things on other machines. I know on my machines with sensitivity control you can set it to high.
Anyone out there can make me understand what is going on with the MXT?

I am no expert but the gain control is the closest thing to a sensitivity control the MXT has. But it is more than just a sensitivity control. Maybe you could describe the gain as a sensitivity control plus. I won't even pretend to understand exactly how it works. But you can download an MXT owners manual and an engineering report from White's website that will give you lots of info.

The gain control has multiple functions on the MXT. From the minimum to the factory preset, sensitivity is being increased, as is audio target volume.

The transmit power is fixed by design, you can only change the receiver sensitivity, Pre-amp gainand audio volume.

When you get into the + range on the gain control, several other things start happening simultaneously. The audio gain is increased (boosted) until you lose audio modulation. That is, the ability to have a deep target whisper to you over the earphones. At the same time, the Pre-amp gain is also increased.

It is better to run with a stable threshold and then increase the sensitivity to get a better
ID, once you've found an interesting target.

Hope this answered your question.

Ok, thats what I was looking for, now if I can just get somthing to limit those surface target blasts, mighty painful to good ears.

Hi Mikel,
I use the Detector Pro Grey Ghost Deep Woods headphones and absolutely love them. They are extremely comfortable, weatherproof, and rust proof.
Using a quality set of headphones makes all the difference in the world.
whats their web site?
Mikel just use a search engine like google an type
"Southern treasures" and search. You can't go wrong with
them.

AS I understand it. As you raise the sensivity you'll hear clicks. The control does increase the gain, but also changes the software that processes the signal (much of the signal processing is done by software not electronic circuits).
