with the se pro after turning it on and noise cancel,at what point does the detector automatically adjust the sensitivity if not using the factory preset.does one still have to do it manually and if so where does the semi-automatic come in.to me it just sounds like a bit of flim flam to enhanse the product.manual setting i understand, most detectors you have to set the sense before operating.i have read the chapter on this many times and still find explaination vague.maybe their's some one here that can explain it better, thank you .emubob

Auto mode has its uses in extreme conditions e.g. electrical power interference from overhead or buried electrical. That said the other 99.9% of the time I adjust sensitivity manually because unless your ground is very clean and free of minerals the Explorer has a habit of over doing it in auto and reducing the sensitivity too far. It takes only a few seconds to adjust the sensitivity manually and most of the time I never have to adjust it again during a hunt.

I find that if I hunt in trashy to very trashy locations auto is not your friend. Auto will reduce the sensitivity to the point that I get good seperation, but no depth. I feel that it is best to control sensitivity manually almost all of the time. I do use auto once in a great while with Sunray coils near power lines, helps control the machine.

We debated this up and down when the explorers first came out. Basically in auto sensitivity is reduced if there is a lot of noise, emi or otherwise. If you are swinging in areas of high trash it appear the machine thinks this is noise and cuts the sensitivity. Now that the Etrac and CTX actually show what the "recommended" sensitivity is you can watch this happen.
