Sensitivity settings

Coinseeker 78

How much Sensitivity is lost using Auto sensitivity versus the manual sensitivity setting using the pro coil.
Thanks in advance.

You do lose a little obviously...but you also lose much of the distracting falsing and chirping that comes with using manual.

I have hunted exclusively in semi auto sensitivity set at 26 for the last 3 years...and done quite well.

Some people feel the auto setting overcompensates for ground conditions at times...and it probably does...but that is probably offset by the fact that the machine is much more stable over iron or bad ground.

Very good question..and I'm sure you'll get a lot of mixed responses and opinions..and that's what this forum is for:thumbup:

Thanks Bryce. I was wondering since a lot of the Minelab owners seem to put the semi auto mode down. I have set my SE to the settings you use and tried it out on some clad and found I like the smoothness of the sounds and the steadiness of the smartfind readings. I was using your settings when I found my first Merc in trash withe the Minelab. I have also found my pro coil gets the deep stuff also. You have made my learning curve far easier than I was expecting. Thanks again.

Id suggest when you find some of those iffy signals try switching to auto ... ive found there are very few i couldnt hear in auto 28. Its odd, because if you run say your ring over the coil while hunting it doesnt seem to be getting much depth as compared to manual. The explorer is the only machine ive ever used that seems to get MORE depth in the ground that in the air in auto. Now i do find it locks onto surface coins faster in auto than manual. I think the only reason auto looses depth over manual is it does filter out some iffy signals. If you are ever playing around with the X1, turn it down to 10, run a coin past it ... i think what you will find is manual continues trying to ID the target... but in auto there is a point it justs cuts it off.

Ive been doing a lot of testing on signals before I dig. The sweet deep signals are always checked between auto and manual. So far I havent found any signals in manual 24
that i couldnot hit with auto at 24. I feel the less falsing with auto sens. is worth the gamble.

i have some coins burried in my yard and in "auto" the sound is choppy and broken up at best,if i switch to manual it gives me a much better sound that i would probably end up digging. at least on the deep ones,so the type of soil must make a big difference, mostly clay where i live

Here's a good video on using the threshold to set the sensitivity.

Just thought I would toss my two cents worth in.
I went out today in my frozen yard to experiment with semi auto over my 8 year old coin garden. What I found was that when I had semi auto running I couldn't hear any of my coins. So I switched it off and adjusted the sensitivity manually until I had a nice smooth threshold while sweeping and that put my sensitivity at 20. Went back over my coin garden and bingo they were making noise again.
Not sure what semi auto had adjusted the sensitivity down to but I had it set on 30 when it was running and couldn't hear my coins.
Several members have stated in the past that it over compensates and I would have to agree.
Hope this helps.

Bryce wear do i go to get your settings, Thanks , Mic
