Sensitivity setting

Dumb question. Ive been using both PP and disc for hunting. Does most of you run full sensitivity in PP? Since unlike ID mode PP is not affected by falsing and doesnt require as much to break the threshold because of filtering. But then in reverse disc we switch back to ID mode...... surely full sensitivity isnt the best setting. So with this in mind i know we switch back to disc to check a target..... do we discount ANY target that nulls OR fails to give a signal? It cant be a sure thing since we all know in disc good targets will null at depth. What are we listening for.... blanks?

Do most of you run full sensitivity in PP?
Wet-sand......Winter I push it to the limit.....(less targets, and deeper).....Summer about 11 plus......

we switch back to ID mode...... surely full sensitivity isn't the best setting
If your only checking the target and returning to PP mode...you will have no problems..........Dew you hit it on the head..that's one reason why PP is deeper in some places..because you can run it hotter then in the discriminate mode. Running discriminate mode hot, will false like crazy..

do we discount ANY target that nulls
Most of the time I do discount plain nulls but some have a chirp, these I will stop for..

OR fails to give a signal?
sometimes I get no signal at all, these are possibly deeper targets..worth investigating

What are we listening for.... blanks?
Not sure what you mean......Blanks I have found to be targets beyond the reach of discriminate......AND Actually deeper targets in the PP mode of the Excalibur with a very low^

I was just hunting in pinpont today , but I set the sensitivity whera i was getting a good clea signal in disq becaue what i have found to much sencitivity makes the signal blury, in fact auto is great , for depth in pinpont but i go a bit higher than auto just above the 3:00 and because of my badd ground I cant get past 7" with a good signal so i hunt in pinpont and its way deeper i can get 7" in disq about 8" in fixed all metal but in pinpont it gets a good digable signal at 10.5" on a dime and in fact 11.25" i was going along today hunting in pinpont and got a deep signal and from 9" come an old shotgun shell , and i have been over this spot in disq 5 or 6 times but i finnaly picket it out it gave a nice round in both drections soft signal , I can tell the cut nails they make a hiper sound and go silent in the middle and hiper sound off the end , I love the pinpont mode just love it it will go whear disq will null or go silent no you want some relick hunt in pinpont

I found a river bank that has so many hot rocks and mineralization that I have a serious loss of depth and signal in discrimination mode, even with auto sens or really low sens. If I use pinpoint, the signals come through and nice depth is obtained. I have been over this area several times with my excal in discrimination mode and am amazed at what I missed: many dimes, a few quarters, all small lead sinkers and nickels. Double checking these signals in discrimination sometimes gives a nice tone, but often gives a weak or chirpy tone. I think there are times all metal mode is prudent with the excal... I run the sensitivity at at about 1/3 of max, where the threshold is stable and I get little to no falsing.

Oldbeachnut answered it all in one post!
Hunting in PP requires a lot of discipline!
I can't count how many targets are found in PP that never get a sound in Discm.
I also can't believe how many stud earrings and earring backs I found in PP.
And a set of Mr. Goldmaster headphones makes all the difference in the world.

DBsmokey, you are exactly right , I have eareas like that as well hot rocks and minerals , the disq mode nulls out and the incredible powerfull all metal modes of the GT save the day it just cuts thru it like a hot knife thru butter

So you are saying in PP Hot Rocks dont sound off? Different than dirt hunting machines ive used then. GunnarMN.... ive found the volume at 3/4 makes targets sound better as well.... might just be these crappy ear phones or my ears lol. Im not certain i care much for PP on dry sand thou. I noticed yesterday on some shallow dimes i almost missed them.... they just sounded very small if thats making any sense. OBN..... my Xcal falses very little regardless of the sensitivity setting in disc. Must be the lack of minerals.... my first thought ... its not working, but the depth im digging is really great.

In PP hot rocks sound off! I just am able to more easily identify them in PP. I just kick them aside and move on. Without PP mode, I would be missing TONS of targets in one particular site I am working. Strange but true, some shallow, small dimes barely signal, if at all, in discrimination mode on this river bank.
