Sensitivity question

What would be the LOWEST setting I could use to assure myself that I would pick up dime sized targets at 6" maximum depth?
I hunt older sites with little trash, and not much moved earth, and don't want to frustrate myself trying to get 8" or 10" when I only really want to be sure I don't miss something at 6" and have the better stability of lower sensitivity.
Do you recommend this setting in Manual or Semi Auto?

The sensitivity setting actually depends on where you are hunting. When I get to the place I am going to detect I usually stare out at a high manual setting like 28-29 and lower it from there if I'm getting a lot of chatter.
I don't think I have ever went lower than 22 manual and I pulled a Barber dime from 10 inches at that setting but it was one of those "iffy" signals that sounded good enough to dig.

The chatter drove me crazy and I am sure that I missed targets because I was tring to detect to China with a high sens. I now hunt in the 12 to 15 range with a very stable machine and I love it there. I am digging wheat pennies at 5 and 7" (wet ground) I don't think that you lose that much. On a flaky signal you can always bumb it up and check it out. I use only Manual Sens, much better than Auto.

Don't run your sensitivity too low or you'll start to miss dimes on edge. A silver dime on edge at even 5 inches can be a very hard target to find if the sensitivity is too low. I never hunt below 16 manual... when I'm hunting sledding hills in winter I'll cut it back to 12 to avoid signals from stuff buried in the ground under the snow, but they still come through, so I imagine that the change in the sensitivity setting would have to be great to see a signicant change in depth . HH, Mike.
