I have been metal detecting for one month. I bout a quattro but where i leave there is a lot of heavy mineral and ore diposits, and the ground is trashy. Would lowering the sensitivity help and how do you lower it. thank you

Did you happen to get a manual with your Quattro? If not it can be downloaded from Minelab. Not trying to bust your chops here, but to ask "How do I lower it" seems to indicate you haven't read the manual, which I think is kind of important if you want to have any success with it. So do you need a link to the manual? If so, here it is: http://206.188.2.79/products/manuals/manuals.htm

Here are a couple of screen shots from the manual that may help.

sorry i did try to read the manual I have a little trouble uderstanding somethings I read I will ask my son to help me with this thank you.

I don't know where you live Mikeh, but it sounds to me like you're starting to detect in ground that may be a bit much for you. Can you get to a beach or footy oval? The ground will be less trashy, and easier for you to concentrate on targets signals, readings, etc, to just get use to your detector. Once you've figured out how to change your sensitivity, try dropping in to about +9 or +10, to find the targets closest to the surface. It will make it more enjoyable, and you won't have to content with other strange, bouncy or inconsistant signals as you go deeper. Anyway, with time, you'll come to understand and know what everyone's talking about. Just like to say though, you've made an excellent choice of detector!
Cheers Angela

an awesome machine and with your hunting situation, you might consider an 8" coil somewhere in the future...Too, make sure that when you "noise cancel" that you find a spot that has no metallic objects...But jump in anytime, there is a lot of knowledge on this forum with a lot of great people...Richardntn

thank you for your input. I just started metal detecting, I had a strock and a pace maker it has made it harder to understand things but the docters say I need to get out and keep going. my son goes with me and helps. thank you
