Sensitivity & Electrical Interference

Okay, so I've had the CTX since March. I have mainly hunted one local park where I can run manual sensitivity at 26 or 27 (Auto +3 would be around 23) without any issues. Probably like everyone else, I'm finding a ton of missed DEEP silver in parks that have been hunted for years and years. However, I'm new to hunting houses in the city but they tore down a house up the street from me and I couldn't resist going over it. I found a bunch of silver; 4 barber dimes, 1 seated dime, a roosevelt, a silver class ring from 1914, all in 2 days of hunting. The problem I had was sensitivity. My machine will not run over manual 16 without going crazy. When I switch to auto +3 it drops down to 9. I tried a noise cancel but it doesn't seem to help. I've since started hunting other yards in the neighborhood and I'm running into the same issue. Does anyone else have the same problem when hunting houses close together in the city?

Switching to a smaller coil will generally help with EMI. Also, what settings are you using? I run Ferrous Coin in combined mode with an open screen and usually run with max sensitivity in manual. I get into some spots where it is more chattery but usually not so bad that I have to cut back on sensitivity much or can't hunt at all. The 3030 is one of the better detectors on the market for detecting in EMI that would shut other detectors completely down. (F75 comes to mind) If you have the 6 inch coil, try it. Or borrow one if you can and see if doesn't help.

Just a thought, have you tried Ground Coin? When my "semi-auto" sensitivity drops below 18, I tend to kick in Ground Coin and it adds a few points.

First, the woods I usually hunt near some railroad tracks have horrible EMI. Fisher won't work and even a whites V3i will only work in mid frequency. My ctx has run as high as 30 manual so it's the best around this EMI. That being said a friend in a new sub division with underground power line had lost his ring right where the line runs. It was so bad I had to run on manual 9 and could not get 2" of depth. Overall the ctx is the best modern detector for EMI but some may be so bad that no digital machine will work right. I plan to take an old analog Mark One back and see if it will work.

I agree with ironman...Unless you're sure it's EMI and not hot soil, I would try Ground Coin. Also, make sure that you don't have ground balance set to manual.
