Sensitivity bar at bottom of screen

Jason in TN

New member
I know it shows the sensitivity that you are running at and tells you manual or auto and if it is + or - in auto. The Green number I think represents the recommended sensitivity let me know if I am wrong. My question is when does this # change. Mine is always at 14 and I think every one on every video I have seen has been on 14.

Jason

I think that is just a coincidence Jason, mine is usually 19 and I have seen videos with different numbers depending on the ground.

Here is one 27-19 http://www.findmall.com/read.php?86,1731911

Thanks guys mine has never changed yet but have not used it but maybe two hours. Does it need to be in auto to change? I have just been running in manual.

Jason

In Manual it stays where you set it. (Which is what it is doing for you now) In Auto it will change to conditions and you can select to have it run from -3 to +3 from the computers suggested setting. Most have it run +2 or +3 so long as it is running stable.

Jason ,

you are correct, mine says 14 suggested in auto , my +3 setting is actually showing 19. I think there is a bug in the display software.Sorry about the poor quality image, and the rainbow is from the original screen protector.

It depends on the area your hunting "ground condition's" after you noise cancel try pumping the coil up and down this will get your sensitivity higher faster instead of waiting for the machine to do it

Nice suggestion - I had forgot all about that. Will do next time out to get it up there much quicker.

Thanks!

I have changed mine to auto and have done manual ground balance have ran it over concrete a black top frount yard back yard every thing I can think of nois cancel and pump the coil up and down. It stays at 14 interesting to see if others are changing. And what you were hunting in manual or auto when it was changing.

If that is correct that would make some sense as mine has been in manual most of the time I have used it.

As you can see from my original picture, mine is in auto.+3 Since the "14" is suggested sensitivity, the auto +3 should be "17" . It's showing "19", so one would suspect that the "14" is actually 16.

Just checked mine too. It is the same way. If is set it auto +3 it has the green at 14 and the sensitivity at 19 not sure it is effecting the way the detector works at all but looks like the green number is not changing think you may be right on the display having a issue.

The CTX 3030 has three internal signal channels (high, medium and low) used to identify targets. The CTX 3030 continually measures the magnetic ground interferences that affect these channels and adjusts the level of Sensitivity individually for each channel, to provide the most stable TID for each channel.

When using Auto Sensitivity, the left bar and numeric value indicates the highest Sensitivity Level that either the high, medium or low channel is operating on. The right bar indicates the "Suggested" Sensitivity Level, as determined by the CTX 3030. This "Suggested" level is the average Sensitivity Level of the high, medium and low channels. Each channel is set to a different level of Sensitivity individually by the CTX 3030 to provide the most stable TID's. As an example....... if the CTX 3030 determines the Sensitivity Level for each channel is to be High = 20, Medium = 17 and Low = 11, the left hand bar and numeric indicator will read 20, representing the highest Sensitivity level of the three channels. The right bar and numeric indicator will display the average of the three channels, which is 16. 20 + 17 + 11 = 48, divided by 3 = 16. When you implement the Auto Sensitivity offset with an offset of +3, it will not suddenly change the value of both bars by 3. Instead, it increases each channel's value by 3. So in the example given earlier, the channels will become High = 23, Medium =20 and Low = 14. 23 + 20 + 14 = 57, divided by 3 = 19. So the left bar and numeric indicator will display 23, representing the highest Sensitivity level of the three channels. And the right bar and numeric indicator will display 19, the average of the three channels. When using an "offset" the numeric value of that offset will also be displayed in a little icon, to the left of the left Sensitivity bar.

In Manual Sensitivity, the left bar and numeric indicator represent the level you have set. The right bar indicates the "Suggested" level, just as it does in the Auto Sensitivity mode.

The primary difference between using Auto Sensitivity and Manual Sensitivity is that in Manual, ALL three channels are set to the same value. In Auto, the CTX 3030 determines the value most stable channel. Auto Sensitivity with the offset allows you to "offset" each channel by a value from -3 to +3. The offset allows the user to be more conservative, or aggressive than the one chosen by the CTX 3030, while allowing it to "compensate" for ground interference changes during your hunt.

Thanks for the explanation. Will keep a eye on mine and see how it works out thought something strange was going on with it but looks like it may be just fine sure as I use it more the green # will change just never has yet.

Jason

I thought mine was stuck at the 19/14 numbers for a while, too. Eventually I noticed the numbers change at different locations and ground conditions.

This is exactly why you moderate this forum Randy:thumbup: Thats a very good explanation on sensitivity and coming from the Etrac I did not know the ins and outs of this. Thanks

Randy I really appreciate your post and knowledge of the CTX. Thanks again.
