Sensitivity and Separation

I think it finally hit me while hunting in the forest late this evening. The ground (trail) was rocky and relatively clean. I was able to turn the power up to 90 or so with no problem. I got a signal that moved around from 55 to 75 or so. Since nothing else was going on I decided to find out what it was. But first, I lowered the sensitivity a bit. An interesting thing happened, that one target (who's ID was jumpy) now became two targets, and the numbers didn't jump so much. I lowered it a bit more and then it became four targets hitting consistently in the 57 range (from memory). I dug one small led "fragment?" and let the others go.

A friend told me that during WWII the Germans had big anti aircraft guns there and he found quite a few big casings and bullets on the ground. I didn't but only hit the place briefly.

Anyway, quite interesting how the T2 was still communicating with me regarding multiple targets when I had the power up. I knew it wasn't aluminum cause it hit narrow in pinpoint (some aluminum items jump all over the place). Just thought I'd share this experience as has been said before "overpowering your ground" hides targets.

It had been raining alot and cleared up a few days ago. Hunting has been easier since then with much better separation due to the ground drying up a bit. Ground balance was at around 70ish.

Got skunked this evening but that's due to trying a few new spots, not the T2...

That is a perfect example of what I have been trying to get across. The sensitivity control on the T2 is the hardest control to learn how to use and once you figure it out the rest is smooth sailing.

Start out set up for electrical interference, then set it for the ground conditions and not be afraid to turn it down. I for one am looking forward to a new report of your trashy playgroung you've been hunting since you have new knowledge.

Early on, right after the release of the T2, there was a guy from California that was having wonderful results hunting in high trash sites running his sensitivity at...guess what...20-25 :yikes: He was pulling silver out of a trashed out lot. You can find his post during the month of January if I remember correctly. I'll have to go look for it myself.

Again...great report!

Good point Mike,

Everything I've found at that park is shallow, must go and try it out at 20-25 like you said. I'm getting GREAT separation at 60 + though, or so it appears. I'll drop it next time out. Won't detect next week as I'm gone for 4 days on business.
Please remind me
