Sensitivity and depth signal

I have been trying to keep my sensitivity up as high as I can and have been having good luck finding more and more targets each time I go out. The depth seems to be off when my sensitivity is high, most targets ring in at 6-8 inches but I find most at 2-4 inches, which I like by the way. Is this normal, do you folks have this same issue

Depth of targets can always be in question. At this point I just dig a round plug as deep as my hand spade goes. I find centering the target the most important thing. I don't even look at the depth gage anymore, most of the time. I do have a pro pinpoint and that does help . Sometimes its deeper than the spade plug or its in the side wall. The pinpoint saves time finding most of the targets.

What is your GB#? Could be highly mineralized ground.

Depth readings are a best guess on most machines. Don't put too much stock in them. As mentioned, soil mineralization & sensitivity settings could also be a factor in your case. High sens & mineralization combined can definitely throw depth readings off. You may wish to air test some coins using your field settings. This would help you know if its the soil causing this, if air test depth readings normalize using same high sens settings as in the field.

When in pro mode on my machine with high sensitivity I have noticed the target will often times read 6-8 inches, but when I go to pinpoint mode it will sometimes change to a different depth reading.

I trust the Pinpoint depth reading more than the reading while swinging, but it is NEVER 100% accurate.
