sensetivity settings on the vaquero ? :ausflag:

when i first got my vaquero from the retailer ,he instructed me how to turn on and ground balance.set the sense to 8 or 9.and how to super tune.wow !! i thought, ain't this the bee's wax! now having had this detector for a while and using it fairly successfully,i don't turn up the sense to max anymore.i leave it at on.in either the all metal mode or disc.in the disc mode one notch before 5c turn up the volume/threshold knob to give a clean/crisp responce.to me at this point, the sense past" on" at this stage is a waste of a space, that and the pin pointer button.i've run it at full sense and minnum sense to me it doesn't seem to make any difference, however does the sensetivity come into it's own in the gold fields, where i would imagine you need all the sensetivity you can get to find those elusive spects of gold.having said all this, i still love the vaquero . blowfly hh :detecting:

Hay Blowfly,

when you said:

i don't turn up the sense to max anymore.i leave it at on.in either the all metal mode or disc

Does that mean that you don't use any sensitivity?
If so, why not??????

I set mine as high as I can and hunt smoothly.

And then you said:

in the disc mode one notch before 5c turn up the volume/threshold knob to give a clean/crisp responce.

I don't understand??

Mine does not have a "5c" on the threshold knob.
The threshold does not effect the volume.

I set my threshold so that I can hear a slight buzz
in the all metal mode. I can hear those faint signals
that way and tell if a target or the ground is negative.

Then you said:

the sense past" on" at this stage is a waste of a space, that and the pin pointer button.

I don't agree. More sensitivity helps pick up small items
like gold chains and small gold jewelry.

I use the pin point button for a quick check. I usually
hunt in all metal. When I am checking something out,
or pinpointing in the disc mode, I can quickly check it
with the pin point button.

Happy Hunting,

i apologise gentlemen.i re-read it this morning and it is some what confusing.the absence of certain punctuation and the bottle of merlot that i drank when drafting this post is in-escusable.however to me the threshold knob is more of a volume control in disc mode.in am it is set as you say tabdog.having never found jewellery in the disc mode with the sense turned all the way up,i was begining to think it didn't work.i coin hunt mostly .jewellry i find visually.i see it before the coil gets near it. your right tg i don't have a 5c on my threshold knob either.i will give it a go again with the sense turned up and we'll see what happens. bye for now. blowfly :detecting: hh

well tabdog this morning i went to a local park and i ran the sense at max in disc mode and began finding again all those lost pull tabs that i missed. i know that sometimes small gold rings pop up amongst the trash, however i'll keep looking, maybe someday ? blowfly

I tend to keep my sensitivity about half-way up when hunting local parks. However, when I head to old homesteads I crank it up as much as she'll take and I also super tune for those areas.

You're right Blowfly.

I may have miss understood you about that. I just don't consider it a volume knob.

The threshold will raise the volume in the disc mode, mostly on weaker targets.

They say that will also increase your depth of finds. It's called super tuning.

It can be hard to hunt that way. And to get the full effect, you need lots of

sensitivity also, or the extra depth may not be there.

I don't usually super tune. But I find it handy for relic hunting when it's good

enough conditions to do so. In trash, it's too sensitive.

Heck, don't worry about a funky post. It's a good thing we don't require

perfect vigilance all the time.

Look at me, I can barley keep my stuff to gather. But they let me slide, usually..lol

Good luck with V and

Happy Hunting,

every morning i hunt with my detectors except when we have a cyclone. the wind tends to blow the v and c all over the place and ducking flying branchs tends to distract one. having said that useless piece of information. this morning i once again sallied forth, detector in hand, trying tabdog's tried and true methods. and guess what they worked!! all metal ,disc at max, thumbing into disc on a hit. saves a lot of digging, found $8.95 in aust currency. on average i bank about $70.00 a week. one day i might dazzle you with all the junk jewellery i have found. blowfly hh

Way to Go Blow Fly.

Hope you are doing OK with them cyclones.

We got tornados caused by Ike and heavy rains.

But it didn't last long and the tornadoes missed

us.

It makes a lot of difference on how the V is set.

I have come to really like the analog machines.

It's not every bodies cup of tea, but for me, it is

easier to enjoy my self with them. They fit the

way I like to hunt.

That being said, it makes sense to have other

machines also.

Problem is, they are either too heavy, and/or too

expensive.

So I'm an analog guy for now.

Happy Hunting,
