sensetivity in auto mode ques.??

i have read a lot of the posts and most of you do not recomend the auto mode on xcals (i have the xcal 1000) like gulf hunter ...please explin y ?

ive been told on here to do not run in auto mode..:minelab:
hope this helps..

Because I experimented extensively with the mode and it is a loser. How about 25 straight gold-less hunts, savvy? Once I switched back to manual the gold came back? DON'T GO THERE!

I have experimented also and in manual on deep targets I get a tone,if I switch to Auto I loose it. I would have passed over it in Auto..

Auto is recomended for a beginner as it will run smoother and will be easier to learn, but once you get to know it the manual will get you deeper and it will probably a bit noiser too. In auto you will not hear the deep targets, but if you are new to it you are not looking for the deeper one but trying to get to know the detector more.

It has got it's uses.If you use your sovereign on a site that is totally infested with iron the threshold can blank out almost continuously if used in manual sensitivity. If you switch into auto in these conditions you will find the threshold will stabilise a lot better and give you half a chance of pulling a target out of the trash.I've used it in these situations and managed to get targets that i would have missed in manual sensitivity. These conditions are quite rare however and i would only recommend auto sensitivity as a last resort.......manual sensitivity is deeper and gives you more information when you know what to listen for.

I bought the Sovereign 5 days ago. I have been running in auto mode on the beach wet sand. If I take it out of auto how much depth will I gain? I got this first time out 14k at about 6 inches wet sand.

Wow,that's some first time find. The best thing to do is start with your machine in auto...if the threshold is nice and stable try switching into manual sensitivity. You may need to back it off slightly to make it run smooth but it will give you more depth, especially on smaller targets. However, don't write off the auto mode completely,it has it's uses,it finds 14k gold earings at 6 inches in wet salt sand for a start.Well done on the find, hope you have many more.
