Out yesterday. Got a faintish signal (3/4 depth scale, bullet at ~4") and did a test.
I dropped Manual Sens and at 10 I was unable to hear the target.
I enabled Semi Auto (at 10) and the target came in loud and clear.
Therefore it seems like the numeric setting doesn't entirely matter when you're in Semi Auto, the Exp will increase the Sens above that setting. I'd read old haggling on this board about what "will adjust actual detector sensitivity as close as possible to your specified level of stability" (Exp 2 manual pg 47) means.
This is really clean ground. It is possible that in dirtier ground that Semi Auto will only get pushed downwards. It is also possible that Semi Auto's upward range is limited (eg: 10->12 and not to 24). YMMV depending on the ground you're in.
I'll test it again when I get something deeper.
