Selling gold items....

Took a few rings down to the pawn shop that gives the best deals in town. With the price of gold at $1579.90, they wanted to give me $600. Thinking about sending them to ARA since they pay a little better. Question, how do you guys send in these items, in a small box or one of those bubble wrap envelopes? I would think to insure it also, right? Thanks, John

For the ones that have used this company, I know you must fill out Section 2 Applicant Information but do you also fill out Section 3 General Business Information and where it says Acknowledgement and Agreement, do I just sign this, do I need an Authorized Representative signature? I appreciate any info. Thanks, John
Thanks, John

Pawn shops are not the place to sell gold.
Shop 2 or 3 Jewelers and ask what % of spot they pay.
I get 85% of spot. Some only pay 70% and there are others that pay a whole lot less.
Get a good scale to know where you are.
Remember, they are buying the Karat not the full weight.
They will also give you less if there are stones. They will measure the weight in Grams.

You can get a good estimate of value at this link:

John call ARA I misplaced their contact number. PM scuba detector if you can find one of his posts ARA is who he uses and he will have the information you need. I use them also but can't find what you need. In my opinion they are the best to deal with out there. Get hold of ARA before you sell you will be glad you did. HH :minelab:

Yeah, I found that out, just wanted to see what they would offer. I will check with a jewelry store tomorrow before I decide on ARA, thanks.....

My question, which I've always wondered about is after you pay insurance, postage and handling. Is it still better than a local gold buyer (not a pawn shop)?

That's 85% of todays spot price. It doesn't get any better.

And at todays prices ARA gives 29.42 a gram. I just sent in 72 grams of 14K, so I would have lost 318.00 Not a good bargin EZ. ARA is as good as it gets and they remove and return all stones FREE. And they buy diamonds if you want a quote.

Can't beat that as gold is at $30.07 a gram for 14K at todays spot price. The highest it's closed in 2 weeks.

yeah the only reason that i sold a few rings was for fast cash the first one i sold on feebay then the the buyer sent me a private email asking if i had more so to make a long story short i sent him a envoice through paypal with a pic of the ring then he paid me for it then i shipped it to him so it was quick and ez lol, i think in the future i i might try ara just seemed like a little hassle with the paperwork they want you do fill out and send to them for tax reasons it appears hh

ARA has NO paperwork PERIOD. Send a letter with your name and address, how you want your money back and what you sent in, and you found out about them on here and your a metal detectorist. THATS IT. No forms, no numbers except your address. Call them if you have ANY questions.

I used ARA 3 times so far in the last 12 months, they are easy to work with. Just need to insure your pkg at the post office you send them & 2 weeks or so you will have a check from them..

OK. I wish to repeat my question. We have a gold buyer here and they claim to be higher pay than pawn shops. Has anyone used them and if so does the difference in paying postage and insurance offset the difference? Thanks.
