Sell GTA 1000 and get a 250?

Hi guys,
I've had a GTA1000 for several years. My wife used it originally then it became my backup. I primarily use a Fisher CZ-6a. I would like my 8-year-old to try detecting and after reading the great posts on the Ace 250 I've thought of selling the GTA on ebay and buy a 250 in it's place.
Good swap? What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Kent

I have both, my 1000 is the PM version and in my opinion is a bit more machine than the 250.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the 250 and use it all the time, but the 1000 is more versatile and used coils are available for it at very reasonable prices, I have 5 coils for mine.

hold onto that 1000. I was kinda thinking the same thing since i got a 2500 and 1000. But the 1000 is my first machine and definetly a fine one. I use it after work and for big areas since i have the 10x14 DD coil for it. I decided that i would add a 250 rather than sell the 1000 PM. Each one has it`s place and or purpose.

If the primary use would be by your child the 250 would be the way to go as it is much lighter and easier to handle, learn, operate, and use, but as has been said the 1000 is a little more machine than the 250. Course your off spring may have to fight you for the 250.

That 1000 is a real good machine. The 250 is not as good but much more fun and lighter. Hows about you buy a 150 and keep the 1000? That way, if your son really likes detecting, he could step up the 1000, and you could sell/keep the 150. The 150 is so inexpensive that it would make a great comprimise.

Thanks for the responses guys! You've all brought up some good points that I need to consider.
Happy hunting!
