Selecting ICONS Page 61-62

Selecting target is not that clear when we first start to use the Explorer. There are two ways to look at this I think. If the screen is clear then a target that hits in that clear area is detected. If the screen is black then a target that hits in that area is rejected.

The screen is a visual way to see 1024 digital combinations of ferrous and conductive/size. We could select and reject targets with any combination using a digital system but think of how difficult that would be to try and select from a 1024 digital combination which notches we want to accept and then one to reject. It is pretty easy to do this with a screen and use black for reject and clear for accept.

What we may not realize is that the preset is for coins which do not include FE coins. In theory the coins will hit on the right side of the screen and most do except for FE coins. Give this a try and you will see why we may want to pay a little more attention to the select function.

Go to the select function and CLEAR. Go back to detect and sweep different targets, good and trash and notice that all targets are accepted. However, only ICONS are displayed for the default Coins program. Go back to Select and select all ICONS even though the screen is clear. Now go back to detect and notice when we sweep the coil over a target we now have an ICON that indicates what the target is. I turn on all ICONS with the program I like to use. I have found the ICONS to be the most accurate of any I have seen on a detector. When trying to ID an ultra deep target the sound pitch, digital reading, and icons will all really work together to do so. As I indicated my basic program always has all ICONS turned on for this reason.
