just for kicks i tried the 18" coil and found it hard to pinpoint my target (give me time)
on rings what coil is best?
thanks again hh

p.s. did not found nothing old with the expolorer yet, all new $4.33 today

Hey Kevin,
In order to get an answer to your question, you might want to read the posting labeled "Factory Presets Question" posted by Chuck (Indiana). This is a set of 5 postings that might give you what you need.

Kevin,
If you chose coins and jewlery and block out the pulltabs you will lose you nickles, if you block out screw caps you will lose your IH pennies and the zinc pennies. The best way is just run the coin and jewlery and go learn the tones. I have been runing the digital on the XS II and if it sounds good and repeatable and reads from 24 though 30 on the conductivity, and 0-7 on ferrous chances are it is a coin. A Nickle seems to read from 5 for a new nickle to a 6 bouncing to 7 for a buffalo or V with the ferrous around 10. Gold rings can read anywhere.
Some will run iron mask at a -10-14, but for me a -8 works great and where I hunt the most.

it seem very hard for me to learn the sounds of the explorer II
i been useing the gti2500 and let me tell you it is alot different.
i like the explorer II but it seem to pick up everything (alot of trash) i guess i have to get to know the sounds. like last night i went out in my yard with the explorer could not found anything (i was trying the 18" coil) after a while i got the gti2500 out and within a few min. i dug a 1880 IH.
was it hard for anyone else to learn the explorer?
i goig to try and runing the digital maybe that will help or maybe i can't hear i dont know. but i wont give up.
i just need help, thanks all

p.s. I am not putting down the explorer II so please dont get mad, i just need to learn how to use it.

First thing I will tell you is put away that 18 inch coil untill you have learned the Explorer as it will only make it harder to learn. If you have a smaller coil I would be using it untill you understand it better as they will be too many signals to listen to and try to short out.
Many have a problem learning the tones and I have found that digital help me and many other learn it,now I just go by the tones and if is a good repeatable signal then I look at the meter.
Good luck and keep praticing as it will all come to you with some experince.
Rick
