SEF DD BUTTERFLY COILS

How are the sef butterfly coils measured? I'm just curious if say a 6x8 is 6 " wide, and 8 inches from wing tip to wing tip or 8 inches from front to back at the the center between the loops?

I have 10x12 SEF coil on my MXT PRO and it is my favorite coil. Better than the 6x10. Great separation for its size. Go back to your hunted out sites and you will find much more with it.

I have 10x12 SEF & 6x8 SEF & 15x12 SEF alone with the 6X10 for mxt pro and m6 .all the coils have great separation. the 6x8 is better then 6x10.I do swap out and use all coils in the same area.I have been digging on the same field in town for about 9 months now and keep finding silver coins.

sorry, got it backward 8x6 and I got the D2 10''. like it as well, but it give high vdi reads.

[size=large]was amazed at the lack of the answer to the question. HOW IS THE SEF COIL MEASURED? not which is best or better than others. i did measure my sef 8x6 and if i remember correctly it was from side to side = 8" and from tip of the wing to bottom was 6". but i think someone should remeasure please. it was some time ago i was wondering the same thing and measured the coil.

I ended up buying an 8x6 SEF and here are the actual measurements of the coil: 6 1/2" wide and 8" long from wing tip to wing tip. The measurement from front to back at the center is 7".

THE10X12 or 12X10 butt coil if you like ,is 10"wide x12"long if that helps..

The 12x10 and 15x12 are a true 12 or 15" long and 10 or 12" wide. The other Detech coil, the 13" Ultimate, is actually a true 13" wide but only 12 & 1/2" long. Do I have that backwards? Not sure, been a while since I measured it, but I don't think so.

Just for further sizes, if not specifically coils available for certain machines, the WOT is 14.25" in size while many call it a 15" coil. The Minelab 8" Tornado coils are actually 7.25" in size. The 5" Excelerator is actualy a bit under 5" in size. The Sun Ray S/X-5 coils are actually 5.5" in actual size. The S/X-12 Sun Ray coils are actually 12.5" in true size.

Used to own the Whites "5.3 Bullseye" or whatever they call it, and was let down that it was much bigger than the name implied for a trash coil. Off hand I can't remember, but I think it's true size was like 6 & 3/4" or something like that. I thought I was getting a much smaller coil, which to me is important for a trash coil sometimes.

Always amazes me that companies don't just name coils to the true size they are. Yea, probably not very good for a catchy name to sell by, but when I'm coil shopping for either a large or small coil I want to know exact measurements for both depth potential and/or ability to separate, where even a half inch can make all the difference.
