Like he said, Kellyco said they weren't going to order any more 12x10s (or other coils for that matter) for the Sovereign/Excalibur when Minelab announced they discontinued the Sovereign, but Kellyco then went ahead and ordered some when enough people were looking for the 12x10. That was roughly a month or two ago, so call them and ask for JW and he'll know if they have the BBS version in stock still or if all have been sold out.
They did mention if they sold fast enough they'd continue to order BBS versions, or also that if they didn't if enough people in I think a group of 10 got together with the intention to buy as a group they'd continue to at least get them that way in the future. The 13" Ultimate BBS version arrived right before the Sovereign was discontinued, so I would suspect same deal with that coil- once stock runs out of those they might not order more unless groups of 10 or something get together to make the buy from them.
Not sure if they'll order another batch of 12x10s without pre-orders, as I think they said if that latest batch sold fast enough they'd continue to order more. I suspect they sold fast based on how many people seemed to be wanting one. Kellyco is the exclusive seller of Detech coils (SEFs, Excelerators, Ultimate, etc) in the US. Detech is under contract to only outlet them in the US to them, so if you can't get one from Kellyco it's either buying used or from the UK. These coils are very hard to find used though, and that speaks volumes about how good of a coil they are.
The BBS versions of the 12x10 were always hidden and somewhat hard to find on Kellyco's site, unless you clicked on the right pathway link. For that reason, make sure you talk to somebody who should know like JW, because in the past even when they had some in stock some people answering the phone might have just checked for them on the website and if they didn't easily see them assume that they didn't have any in stock when in fact they did.
The 13" Ultimate- I was loaned one and I like it. It seems maybe as deep as the 12x10 in my head to heads on undug targets, but I never found a fringe depth one that one coil was having issues with IDing to then throw on the other coil and see if it could see it easier. It's more prone to EMI than the 12x10, but that's to be expected as the SEFs have a reputation for being very rock solid stable coils. The stock 10" Tornado on the GT or Elite is the best stock coil I ever owned on a machine, but the 12x10 steps up depth, stability, left/right separation, and even the tones are more crisp and sharp to my ears. It's the pinacle of coil design in a DD as far as I'm concerned. It even made my GT feel like the processor was sped up, due to the sharper DD line making distinctions between "seeing" and "not seeing" two targets next to each other more sharp and distinct between them. Not that the 10" Tornado is any slouch at left/right separation, but the 12x10 makes things even more effortless.
I'm going to pick up a 13" Ultimate for gridding out large areas a bit faster. The 12x10 is a nice step up in coverage over the stock 10" coil but the Ultimate makes it even easier to not miss spots when trying to cover a large area fast, such as large open field or beaches. That's what I want it for. Most days I'll stick with the 12x10 due to it's easier to work between trash and other factors (stability in EMI and minerals), but the Ultimate is so different in coil design that I liked using it when in the mood for something different. Had a 15x12 but it was too much like the 12x10 to want to keep one in my aresnal and didn't seem to get the depth of the 12x10 on dime/ring sized targets in my soil.
