hi all..i just got a 6x8 sef and put it on my m6...now i have read some good(and bad) things on these coils, best i could guage, was, they are liked on some machines, but get bagged on whites..well i took it out for a park hunt today, and i must say,i liked it! :)...i didnt dig anything over 5 inches, but it id'd nicely(im in australia, and whites and everything else is calibrated for american coins),and the tid's i got on the 6x10 whites coil were spot on.ive been reading a lot that on whites, tid's have been known to be off,not a problem for me so far(maybe if i put it on my dfx and try playing with gain etc, that may change)..after a thorough workout,i,d compare it on almost equal terms with the 6x10 dd,its seperation in trash was great..im tempted to try the 10x12(not interested in trying the biggerones) to see how that goes..anyway,i,ll try it on the beach next, and i really dont expect much difference than the 6x10 except, and this is what i love about the sef,is that it is light and balances out beautifully on the m6,making it a pleasure to swing..anyway,these are my initial impressions, they may change with time, but i would be very interested in whites users using sef coils, especially the 8x6 and 10x12..how do you find them, any comments, thoughts appreciated :)

I use both of the coils mentioned and I have no serious problems with either of them. My only complaint is that aftermarket coils are not optimized for the best performance on the White's V3i that I use.

how do you find them depth wise, larry? do you think the 10x12,would perform on par or better than the stock coil?

Anton

In your bad ground, I think the DD/SEF coils would be a better choice than the 950 conical stock coil. The general rule of thumb is the worse the mineralization, the better a DD/SEF coil will perform when compared to a conical. As you said, there probably will not be much difference between the 6X8 and the 6X10 in performance, but I really like the 10X12 as my general hunting coil.

Hey Anton
I have both the 10 x12 and 8 x 6 coils that I use on my M6. With the 8 X 6 I can hit the 6in quarter in my test garden and can some what hit the 8in when cranked to the max. These are freshly buried coins in ok ground. The 10 x 12 is also a really good coil.

hi Bob :)...thanks for the info ..im finding that with the 8x6,that yes,it bangs nicely up to 6 inches,no problem..i dug a coin at 8,it was whispery, but i got it..for the type of hunting i bought the coil for,its great(park/tot lots)..i think i will try the 10x12..how did you finf the pinpointing of the 10x12? how is the weight/balance of that coil?

Anton

Hey Anton
I use the 10 x 12 as my primary and as far as balance it is not to bad. Pinpointing is like any other Double D and just takes a little practice . It does hit on some bottle caps but I get better depth and Id at depth that with the stock coil. I also have the 5.3 eclipse coil for heavy trash. I think the M6 is an underrated coin shooter.

spot on,Bob,i always thought the m6 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay underated..ok,its not the ultimate depth demon, but its hard to explain,it just is a coin magnet, and the option for the 7 tone id is great, and if i need that little extra depth, turn the tones off,and it handles the beach with ease...

[size=large]i have to say i don't think the m-6 is under-rated. it's just like buying a truck. if you can get the 4-wheel drive you get it. even though you don't feel you'll ever use it. can't explain why. it's just you buy the mxt cause you get it all even when you know you'll never use more than the m-6 would give ya. you know the m-6 will do ya fine but ya gotta have it all. just had to put that out there. jmho
