hi guys just put a sef coil 12x10 on me gt and when i turn it on theres a constant but faint humming noise even before i touch my threshold button
any ideas why it is doing this is it because its a bigger coil..
regards carl-ecl...

I have the 12X15 and have no problem setting the threshold.Have you tried taking the connector apart and cleaning the sand off the threads and some gets inside.Maybe a bad connection.in there.

thanks for the reply sand scoop and i like turtles too ZOFCHAK what ever thats supposed to mean...

Do you have a BBS coil or FBS? BBS is for your machine with 17 frequiencies FBS is for the machines with 28 frequiencies this might create the problem you have discribed. Just a thought. HH :minelab:

Yea, it's got to be a coil meant for a Sovereign and not for the Explorer or Etrac. These coils seem to pick up less noise than the stock 10" but if you are around RF noise that could be the problem. Have you taken it away from any houses/power lines? Checking the connector is also a good idea. If nothing else then you have a bad coil because I've never heard of anybody not having one of these coils work great with no problems on a Minelab. Oh, and is your silent search switch in the right place? That can do strange things to the threshold if it's been flicked over to Silent Search without first adjusting it to being just loud enough to hear.
