SEF coil squeals

I dug the MXT300 out of the closet recently. Took it out to the test garden and re-familiarized myself with it. I tested four coils over coins. Three worked great, but my 8X6 SEF seems to have an issue. When I go to screw the connector on, the audio begins to squeal erratically. If I don't screw it on but only push it in, it works great. But as soon as the female screw collar touches the male connector on the box, I assume it's grounding out. I don't see any physical issues with it. It has spent the last couple of years in my garage where it does get damp during high moisture days, but there has never been any moisture related failures with anything over the years.

Any thoughts? Thanks

......sent it in; worked fine after.
(while it would work pushed in only, any bump could cause intermittent malfunction)

Is that connector shaped like this? If so, that's terrible connector. I lost every coil like it before they upgraded the connector. This one still works on my V3i but squeals and shorts out on my M6. Cheap lousy quality.
