SEF COIL REPAIR ?

supershaw

New member
Hi...I have a 12x10 SEF coil that seems very unstable on my Sovereign...xs2a pro.At the point where the wire enters the coil the plastic nut was loose so I wondered wether water has managed to get in !!
Does anyone know what readings I shoud get between the pins (6) with a multimeter.
I have resistance reading between pins 5 and 6 and apparently this shouldnt be !
Can these coils be repaired ?

Super, i bought a "new" SEF 12x15 for my ETrac that came defective. It was very erattic and unstable. I had to wait some time after sending it back to get an exchange. The new one is alot more stable and works like it should. That nut should only be finger tight. I dont know if they are waterproof as i havent seen any info saying they were.

Question, when you take the coil cover off. Is the bottom of the coil gray or black? My defective coil was black. My new one is grey.

There should be no wires connected to pin 5 or 6 which is a blank space. You may have problems at the connector. Newer Sovereign Minelab coil pin wires are 1 Red,2Black,3 White,4 Yellow 5 and 6 blank. The older Coinsearch coil has a pin wire for 6 blue this coil uses green for white and orange for yellow.Sorry but can't help with the SEF pin wire color but again 5 and 6 shouldn't have any wires connected.

Thanks Ron...When you say there should be no wires connected are you talking about the sovereign box or the coil connector?

I figured out the proper pins, colors, and ohm readings for these SEFs. Read this thread and it will even walk you through troubleshooting it. I had bought a bad SEF used and fixed it with a little investigation...
