sef butterfly 10by12

New member
I recently been down to the beach with the sef butterfly 10 by 12 .three days in a row. with the mxt pro, It was set on salt , coin and than relic, the gain between 9,and 10 when that didn't work. I moved my gain up to 1,2,and 3 plus. my dual was set at each of it's arrows no luck. My machine works good. all i was getting was hot rocks. I couldn't find any junk. But on the other hand I walk across the two highway to the other side where the sand met the soil I was able to pick up all kinds of stuff like four sardines, a small bottle, and soda cans. Can someone tell me if that 12by10 coil works on the beach, or am I doing something wrong. mouseman

Nothing wrong with machine or you. I've hunted here at the New Jersey shore, and at times have tested my coil against the metal pail I carry to see if it was on. Not unusual to hit "clean" beaches even in a crowded State like here in Jersey.

The beach I went to with my 10 by12 sef butterfly gets everyday people. am talking tourist people. As, well as local people too. I live in crescent city, ca People come everyday to look at the giant redwood trees, and the wild pacific coast of calif. I strongly know that there is all kinds of things at this beach, and we have lot's of other beaches in this area to, and i have the same bad luck with this coil. You see I'm 15 minutes from the Oregon line. I also been to Oregon beaches to. It does ok down at the river. We have four rivers here within 25 minutes apart. And this don't make much sense it works at the river but not at the beach. i don't know what to say about this coil. It makes me want to blow my top. Mouseman

[size=large]what about the coil it came with? how does it do? if it's the machine then the coil won't matter. if the coil thenthe other coil should work. what do ya think? i'm way up here in s.w. wa. and found a dime at the beach at ft. stevens.didn't hunt long. it was very cold.

The coil it came with it is a 12" 300,and today at the park I found a penny with the 300. were you in wet or dry sand? the butterfly works good everywhere else. Maybe, the wind, or time of day, sand at that point of the day. I don't know.but three outings you would thing i would fine something. but, I won't give up. I'll have to chill and to the beach again i guess. hey, thanks for the reply. mouseman

[size=large]one big differance is i was using a xlt where you have a mxt. i was using the royal 800 concentric coil on the dry sand. picked up some nails in boards then quit. the weather was chilly for summer. around 67-68 degrees at the end of august. over-cast but not much wind at the time. haven't hit any beaches since. if the coil works everywhere else then you must have a very hunted out beach. all i can think of.

wide body, the beach gets everyday people. the beach is long I mean real long I'm talking around 2 and a half to 3 miles long. there's got to be something there, and i have to go back down there try my luck again. I was hopeing someone one would say they had luck finding a few things to insure me that the coil does work. and weather it was on wet or dry sand. the's words would make me feel more better about the coil. thank you for the reply and input. mouseman

I went to two different beaches today with my 12by10 sef butterfly coil no luck. I think I should've bought whites d2 coil instead of the sef, and I ain't having any fun with this coil. I also, when to a park. put my 12" 300 coil on had luck at finding trash, and iron. oh, one penny. has anybody had good luck at the beach with white's d2 coil?

I can't seem to understand the problem. Let's see if we make a summery.

1. The 12x10 coil works on parks but not on the beach.
2. You haven't tested the detector on the beack with the 300 original coil
3. the Original 300 coil works well on parks as the 12x10

Well I don't think that the problem is the coil, I think that the problem is that there is nothing there to find in your beach.
I would have tested the 300 coil at the beach as well just to confirm this but aparently you didn't.

You could try to contact the manufacturer for a solution but nobody will work with you as much as Whites. They make all my coils.

What is odd how this SEF coil is advertized.....
http://www.kellycodetectors.com/excelerator/10x12_excelerator_report.htm

If the claims in that add are almost true, it should be a sweet 'wet sand' coil. I hate false advertizements, Kellyco has alot of them on there site.

I know, kellyco sales lady said that this coil was better than white's d2 coil. she also told me that she has a 10by12 too. and that she uses it at the beach and it does good. but, I haven't had any luck with this coil. and I been to four different beaches now and had spend over an hour at each one. and the worse part about it is I can't find any trash with it. on the beach wet or dry. now inland does great. mouseman

Hello everyone!!! I'm an Arizona MXT Owner and Gold Prospector, looking to buy a MUCH better than stock coil for nugget and relic hunting out here in this highly mineralized ground. I would like one with more depth, stability, and sensitivity for finding not only large deep targets, but also fairly small nuggets. SO, my question is which one to buy, IF ANY!!! The coils I've boiled it down to are as follows: SEF Butterfly 12x10, SEF Butterfly 15x12, or the Whites Ultimate 13" coil? Your help in recommendations are MUCH appreciated. Do ANY of these coils work in highly mineralized ground, such as out here the the desert southwest?

I love the SEF coil on my MXT PRO. I don't think your problem is the coil or your machine. You may have been in an area that had fewer targers. I have gone back to some of my hunted out sites and found several deeper targets that my other coils could not find. I hunted an old small park next to a picnic shelter. My partner had the MXT PRO as well only he had the 6x10 DD coil. This place was extremely trashy with pull tabs and bottle caps and nails everywhere. So bad he quit hunting and sat on a bench and watched me. I found a few wheat pennies and an old token with my SEF coil. This coil has great separation. You will hear the trash but you will also hear the high tone good targets when you go over them. Now I mainly hunt civil war relics and again I have gone back to places I have hammered pretty good and still found deeper relics I missed before. Do I like the SEF coil? No I LOVE the SEF coil.

Hi, Mouseman , I have an sef 10x12 coil that I use on my dfx. I live south . calif. and I went down to the beach about a week ago metal detecting. There were about another six hunters there looking for the goodies along with my wife and I. The sef did ok. I found about $1.50 in change, most was down around 5 " and 2 pieces of junk jewerly. I was using the jewelry/ beach mode. I personally like the 6x10 or the 9.50 coil . They seem to hit better and seperate better here were I live. But it seems kind of odd that you cant find anything on that beach, unless they are using a sand sweeper , and it cleans up before you get there. They use one here at the beaches. Can,t imagine all the goodies they pick up. anyways my two cents on this coil. Have fun. Al
